When you were cutting the pins with the side cutters even your camera was squinting so as not to get the pins in the lens. 😆

The future potential of this is amazing. Can't wait see where it is 5 years from now.

Fill the nook of your cutters with silicone. Let it dry and cut it down the center with a razor to make a built in shrapnel catcher.

What would be cool is if it had bluetooth. You could put it where you get the best signal, like in an up stairs window or something, and use your cell phone in the interior of the house or building.

I got one built already. For basic 2m communication it works. Out put is only about 1w or 30db so more of a neat project then anything.

Wow, I also think that is going to be great for people that are still stuck to their phones and maybe have not gotten into uhf/vhf radios yet. I think this would be a great way for them to test it out, and kind of get their feet wet.

get cutters with lead catchers... (it's a little springy thing that keeps the leads from flying off when you cut) Expensive name brand is about $30 [KNIPEX - 78 13 125 Tools - Electronics Super-Knips, INOX Steel, Multi-Component (7813125), 5-Inch with Lead Catcher] cheaper ones are about $20 [Xuron - 2175F Maxi-Shear Flush Cutter - Lead Retainer]

Wish I didn’t have to buy 5 pcb’s at a time. Can’t wait till someone’s selling kits! I’ll pay a premium to have all the parts to build one one bag!

Thanks for the soldering tutorial and this is a cool idea to adapt existing tech to make it cheap and easy.

First thing I would do is build an (approx) 20 watt amp to sit in there.. Probably build my own board for that! Cool device

If they did something like this for 900mhz, having a license free option like this would be a super nice entry level device, and could make for a power house comms solution on a cheap tablet between that and the Meshtastic app.

Are those diagonal cutters California compliant?

It would really be nice if they would set one up that works 70 CM or even gmrs

That would be super awesome for Foxhunting!

Looks fun & cool. As a total newbie to all this Ham nerd stuff; some pointing to the tools would be great.! (The soldering gun, flux type?, etc). Thx 🙏

Good to see that ham radio is slowly heading towards this direction. I wonder if there’s an FT8 Transceiver for iOS?
