How to Turn Your Smartphone into a Portable Blacklight

In this video, I'll be showing you how easy it is to use your iPhone or Android smartphone as portable black light using only a couple of markers and some tape. If you're worried about getting ink on your camera like me, feel free to tape over that too to protect it. It's not necessary though, especially if you want to take photos or videos with the black light on.

Sharpies are really the only way to color the tape without it looking splotchy. Since I don't have colored Sharpies, I used tracing paper and regular dollar store markers. It worked pretty well, so just a suggestion for people who had that same issue

I did the experiment with 6 layers of tape, each one with a black dot I drew with a black marker to cover the flash of my phone, to literally make the light totally black with the light on. I think I went too far.

Hi thanks for this I did try but I couldn’t get the felt to stick on the back of the sellotape because it was too shiny and didn’t sink in. Is this a different tape you are using? I also tried a see through Elastoplast which was a tiny bit better but not much. Perhaps it was because I wasnt using a sharpie just another felt pen? anyhow is there anything else you can suggest that works instead of the tape please? cheers.

My friend does a similar trick like this ;) they can hack light bulbs, clocks any electronics, pretty much all with his phone you know how?

Yea who cares, this was an idea in itself, to make a diy uv lite on ur phone is brilliant and cheap/ learn from it, and lets improve on his idea, > it could be custom 3d printed snapon with smart chip and a specific app running the pbl nano cam onboard, mini cams are affordable

Anyone else’s eyes messed up? Now I see a whiteish purplish and bluish circle looking normally not through anything

This is fake. One reason is that the green highlighter is designed in such a way that it will fluoresce under lights with a higher frequency than green. In a flashlight with a blue and purple filter, most of the light that comes out is red and blue, probably some real violet, but none of them is ultraviolet because money does not fluoresce under this light. One more thing is that a phone camera is designed to not emit UV in the first place. We can test this under a spectrometer or a UV card.
