Is a 65W TDP CPU in 1L worth it? Dell OptiPlex 7060 Micro Project TinyMiniMicro Overview

Показать описание

In our Dell OptiPlex 7060 Micro Project TinyMiniMicro piece, we see the impacts of a 65W TDP CPU in terms of design, power, and performance. We have tested a number of systems with 35W Intel Core i5-8500T CPUs, but we purchased this system with a 65W Intel Core i5-8500 to see what the impacts were on a 1L system.

You should file a complaint for that power supply. You are just letting them screw over the next person if you don't. They need the lesson in this situation, not you.

I got a mini PC with the i5 8500t (35 Watt version). This was deliberate for the reasons you mention. It runs nice and quiet as my desktop computer, and has plenty of "power" for what I want to do, which is programming, web work, general browsing and videos. I have Debian GNU/Linux on it and it runs very well.

It always amazes me how these tiny micro-pc's have more ports on them than your average modern-day laptop, even 17" models.

Gotta say, I would be unhappy with a seller that sold me system that wouldn't boot with what they included. Love the series!

I have a client who bought a few of these to replace some old PCs in their office, shortly before the pandemic struck. They are really tiny and were absurdly expensive. Well, in my country, anyway. They might be the exact same model as the one in the video, but they are definitely really identical. But I believe the ones they got have an SSD instead of an HDD.

It's not buyer beware, if the items you bought it as set were meant to work with each other, they should be compatible with each. And for the power supply, not booting is not compatible. In my opinion that's fraud.

Regarding the charts, they look fine, but the text labels are TINY. Increasing the font size on that would make them useful.
Interesting video, though it seems like that unit was frankensteined, as I think that's a 35 Watt heatsink.

I ordered a 7060 Micro with a 65w i7-8700 and it came with a 130w power supply brick and have had no issues.
My mother in law needed a computer a year later so we got Dell optiplex micro 7070 with the 65w i7-9700. They shipped it with a 65w adapter and upon boot the BIOS said system performance would be limited until the correct adapter was attached. Dell Happily sent me the correct adapter.
I ordered both units from Dell outlet which is the only place ive seen Dell Sell the 65w TDP versions.
But for the size its amazing to have this little box with a full power i7, up to 32gb ram, with wifi/B, Nvme drive and a 3.5sata drive. Only downside is intel UHD.

I love this kind of small computers. I have 2 Lenovo TinyPC M73 with Haswell-era cpus and I like them!

Would certainly like to see a deep clean video for machines that do have “gunk” in the fans and such!

I'm obviously a Dell guy. Dells being so dang easy to work on is one of the things I love about them.

I put a 8700k in mine and set it up as a Hackintosh! Works great.

I like these - I have a lot of Intel NUCs doing my work and I also have a lot of Dell laptops doing my streaming as having a laptop helps with keeping the streams up 24/7 365 like Spike and a UPS.

Thank you I will consider using these.

I would have filled a complaint for deceptive sales practices against that seller. Yes he did send a list supply, but it doesn't work with the system... So he should have said that it was a non-functioning system. A quick picture of the system not hitting with the power supply would have proven the point.

I was thinking this might be worth it, I like this little platform, very robust and flexible...but.

There's a big difference between a 14nm Intel 65w cpu and a 7nm AMD 65w cpu in terms of thermal performance. I'd love a 4350g/4650g in this package.

How about i7-8700T (35W) vs i5-8500 (65W)? are they similar?

Surprising to hear that the T and non-T do have such different performance. I always thought that the T was basically the same chip.

Will there ever be a head to head performance comparison of all tiny micros? Maybe a cost/performance chart? Perhaps a matrix with capabilities like USB type-C, etc?
