Today we will be looking at maximizing the performance of the Intel i7 10700 65w desktop CPU. By unlocking the default power limits this CPU imposes, we can achieve a 21% or better boost in CPU performance.

Intel Core i7 10700 (65w)
Noctua NH-U12S HSF
Asus H470-i ROG STRIX motherboard
Asus ROG GTX 1660 Super GPU
Crucial 32GB Crucial Ballistix (PC2933 14-15-15-35)
Seasonic Focus 450w Gold PSU

Interestingly, my Long Duration Package Power Limit was set to 255W as default. I didn't have to change any settings, my 10700 is always running at 4, 6GHz or more (I have never seen it drop below 4, 55GHz). My motherboard is MSI MAG B460M Mortar WIFI and it has a option to select your cooling solution (if you select a water cooling or aftermarket air cooler, long duration limit is automatically set to 255W). Luckily my 10700 behaves as a CPU with 4, 6GHz base clock. It is perfect for my use case (flight simulation - Lockheed Martin Prepar3D) which is very CPU frequency dependant.

Thanks for this, it pushed me to save some cash and get an i7-10700 for my setup!

Excellent presentation, thanks. Rarely done as well as this. Incisive, clear, purposefully quiet tone. You would have done well at IBM. Am going to do this with mine and expect to see blowfish timings improve.

This is such a good video the way you explained everything from start to finish. Thank you so much!

I upgraded from a 2 core cpu and a 2 gb vram gpu laptop to a 3070 and i7 10700

Also at first it was having MAJOR therma throttles or at least I thought it was because games would randomly spike cpu usage and tank FPS and temps would plummet but it turns out disabling all power saving options in bios fixed it and I use turbo boost and thermal boost and in cinebench scored higher than a i9 and a threadripper by like 0.01 percent lol

Thank you very clear and concise directions. Also works exactly same on Asus B460 Prime Plus

Omg man i was specifically looking for this, not so many have explained how to unlock the full potential of this cpu. I saw a review on tomehardwear, they increased the something to 102.90mhz, also i changed the pl1 and pl2 to 65 and 224, i will try ur method. I have a z490 msi. Thanks

My core i7 10700 decided to give up after a year of light usage luckily it’s still under warranty and I hope Intel will send me a replacement

Very well done video. Thanks! Similar set up here with an MSI B460m mortar mobo (edited for typos)

Hi, I don't really know much about computers, but as long as I have a motherboard that fits the socket, I should be able to get the most out of my cpu clock speeds/performance right? I have an Asus Prime H410M-K which is a micro atx board. Would I be able to do the same thing and get the most out of this cpu?

Also, does doing this mean you're running your cpu at max turbo frequency all the time even when idle? Will this affect the cpu's overall lifespan?

Need help asap! Thanks for this awesome vid!!

MSI has a option called cooling type that i think does the same ? has 3 option boxed cooling, air tower, water cooling, each settings changes the power limit .box cooler limits to 65w

What kinds of additional temp increases did you see by “unlocking” the 10700?

Finally I know the problem, thank you

Great Vid, are the values same for the i7-10700f?

if you really want the advertised boost speeds, try turning off cpu/pcie spread spectrum...this turns off the setting that dynamically adjusts the base clock and prevents interference with clock speeds. This way, since the bclk will always be at 100 MHz, you will likely get the advertised clock speeds fairly easily.

Hello, I want to buy this i7 10700 processor exclusively for graphic design work, video editing and use of engineering programs (Games the truth little) and I want to use its integrated GPU. Is it worth it and will it perform for what I need? I was thinking about this processor and the i7 11400, which one do you recommend? I hope you can guide me. Thanks.
