Might have to wait on upgrading for this 3900. The way I look at it is why bother with X version at 95watts when the non X turbos to 4.2 at 65watts, would rather have cooler temps in my case

Interesting info. I have a 3700x at 4.275 on a eVGA clc240 on 1.380 and love it. These new parts will further challenge inhell.

It would probably be like the 3700x and the 3800x 200 mhz difference in speed and $50.00 price difference. Actually maybe a little slower because the 3900x is 105 watt tdp not 95 like the 3800x.

I really hope these are limited to OEMs or at least mobile. Ryzen 3, 5, 7, 9. Zen 2 36, 37, 38, 39 oh plus a 3950. X and non X. Pro and non Pro. Come on AMD, you cant even get PBO vs PB right and one of them doesn't do anything anyway.

Its a non-event. Its just AMD ultra-binning their production. If you want to see what a 3900 at 65W feels like, just take the existing 3900X, go into CBS/NBIO/SMU in the BIOS, and set the socket to 65W. It will be a little depressing. But then remember that you can 'overclock' it and change the socket to 80W and you will get most of the frequency back. But it will still be a bit on the negative side of the power/efficiency curve I think. The sweet spot is 95-115W in the socket or so.

For your toasty setup, just go into the BIOS SMU again and set the socket wattage to a level where it isn't. You can probably swing something in the 95-115W range without your setup getting toasty. Don't lower your power by messing with any of the frequency parameters... use SMU instead.
