This hit close to home for me. Im 55, and have been selling on E-bay since 1998. I did BOTH the printing out labels on a laser printer, and refunding shipping charges. I stopped the shipping refunds many years ago, from watching your videos. I was still holding out on the label printer, until about a year ago. " With a laser printer, it costs me basically nothing to print a label, cut it out, and tape it on !!" I wish I had switched to a label printer decades ago. I was the very definition of " Thats the way i have always done it !!! " Now, if these darn kids would get off my lawn, everything would be good.

Refunds are such a pain, I have never understood refunding the difference. My buyers don't pay me extra when the shipping is over what they paid.

I did the cost analysis.. my XL size toner is dirt cheap & I don't use tape, lol, I use sticky labels which I just slap on the packages. It works for me.

I’m older and I love learning new things. When I started in 1997, we hand wrote addresses on packages and sent checks or money orders. I’ve kept up with all the changes since then. The first reselling Facebook group I joined, I broke some rule I didn’t even know they had and got booted out in 5 minutes! No warnings, no second chances. That taught me a lot! Picked myself up and started listening to your videos!

I used to print out labels. Why? Because it was cheaper!

5.00 for the laser printer from an estate sale. Those things take YEARS before they run out of toner just printing simple labels.
2.00 for a whole pack of paper
50 cents for spray adhesive.

I have a thermal printer now because I was able to get it from a garage sale for 12.00. The laser printer is still here for backup.

There are NO online retailers (actual companies) that would refund a difference in shipping costs 😂😂😂

Couldn't agree more. It's great to hear what is working for others, but to assume that someone else's way or your way is the only RIGHT way is ridiculous. There are so many subtleties to each of our operations that there are few absolutes. Take what works for you and ignore the rest.

I agree with you. I've been dreaming about a thermal printer for a year. Still working on my debts first but getting there slowly. It would be way more effective than my printer. Sometimes it is just the wrong timing to be able to buy office supplies. Living a penny at a time. I am getting there ;)

Agree on all 100%. We started out printing & taping our labels, but bought a used thermal printer after a while. The money we save on printer ink, paper, tape, etc. is enormous. The printer ink, alone, was a huge chunk out of our profits. You're right that people should be more open minded. Some might find it hard. Like you said, stuck in their ways or they find it scary and it's understandable. At the same time, it can be exciting and it might work. You can always go back to your old ways.

I’m older and I’ve never used a printer with tape for labels. Prior to selling on eBay I watched a lot of videos on YouTube (you are one of the first) and my youngest sister was selling on eBay so I learned a lot of reselling tips.
Being adverse to change; That’s how businesses tank. It’s also how one knows they have aged. Not accepting change and adapting.
I use calculated shipping and do not refund overages in shipping. Nobody has complained. Especially when they receive their package and see how I packaged their item. I have never had anything break. I sell Vintage and antique glassware. I cannot imagine packing these items with inferior packaging techniques. These items are scare or rare and are survivors.

I resisted the thermal printer for SO LONG, and trust me people still using tape, dude, GET IT TOGETHER. It's worth every dollar. Invest in your business.
The cost of the shipping label, is the cost of the shipping label. But boxes aren't usually free. Tape isn't free. Time isn't free. Your $10 shipping, costs you $11.30 with eBay fees, assuming you didn't promote, but you probably did. Labels, tape, paper, time. Stop charging exactly what the post office charges. You're losing money. Don't rip yourself off by $2 minimum on every order. It adds up over the year.

Some resellers not all are some of the rudest people I know online especially to other resellers and especially to those just starting out. I remember how rude some resellers were when I had a few questions when I first started reselling. Now I pretty much keep to myself and try everyday not to be those type of resellers. They weren't being helpful or critiquing. We need more resellers in this world who can critique and still be humble about it.

You're right about one thing. I still use a regular printer. LOL. I did at one time though get a label printer which of course was a lemon & that was in the last couple of years when it was hard to find anything & they never had a replacement. I guess I need to try & get one again.
