If making you angry keeps you scrolling and chatting, the algorithms will keep you angry untill you are basically insane.

I’ve always engaged people in a polite and positive manner on all social media platforms: I never insult them, never send any swear words their way, and I always deconstruct their ideas as respectfully as I possibly can. And yet, despite all that, I still get treated like crap.

I guess there’s just no winning on the internet.

What's messed up is that the people who misinterpret benign comments often reply with literal calls for violence against the people they claim are "problematic".

To be fair it is the people that make me hate everyone, not social media. I hated people well before the social media even existed.

A close friend of mine recently went to Florida to get away from work stress. He came back home even more stressed from the amount of people who were harassing him for daring to spend money in Florida, even some of his own family joined in. Apparently going to Florida automatically makes you worse than the devil himself. Social media was a mistake

my biggest issue with this isn't just social media. it's every single method people have used to abuse the mind so more people are even like this. some are paid to, others are tricked to, some are just assholes, but the fact theres people out there intentionally scaring people or pissing them off into being like thiss the real aggravation. people got HIRED to make others into insane wrecks.

Back in Elementary school through highschool, I was a sensitive emotional kid who couldn't take a joke and being diagnosed with autism only made it worse. I often skipped class and got bad grades as a result. I even assaulted my gym teacher at one point. I didn't even graduate. I ended up getting an adult education diploma in my late 20s. I go on Twitter and I realize that a lot of people act like me when I was a kid.

Séamus... no worries, mate. We can nail you back together. As long as you are within insurance coverage, espouse the correct political views, and publicly state you love Big Brother...

Annoying feminists: "Oh, so you're saying we should enable RACISTS on the Internet?"
Starting to think that.

The main difference between social media bad faith and IRL bad faith is just the efficiency of the communication. These bad faith actors were already everywhere and it's made worse by the fact that it's harder to extract intention from text than face-to-face communication.

I miss the days when all social media was like funnyjunk. Occasional flame wars broke out, but since everyone was anonymous that's as far as it usually went.

We need to go back to pure anonymity so ideas can truly be challenged

My internet experience got immensely better once I started following a rule I set for myself: I will not post a comment about anything unless it is positive in nature, even when responding to negative comments. Game changer.

Being angry all the time is bad for your mental, physical and spiritual health.

Sadly accurate. I did my capstone project on this though I called it the Jekyll and Hyde effect.

For those curious I was saying in the project was that the social media and the computer screen in effect behave the same was that Dr Jekyll or Jack Griffin’s(the invisible man) formulas did. In the original story of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, the formula only changes his physical appearance with no personality change at all. This give Dr Jekyll and Mr Griffin anonymity to do whatever they wish with little to no consequences

This happens to me a lot, I say something none controversial and I get attacked by preprogrammed idiots making giant leaps and assumptions about me. This is my strategy: I ask them "Can you point out exactly where, in what I said, that I said what you are saying?" This usually leads them to personal attacks and ignorance to which is my golden ticket to rip into them and hilarity insues. I've even had these assets apologize to me, it's great.
