I think it's more polite to actually form an opinion and express it instead of being a hypocrite, smiling and saying yes to anything. Make an effort.

The average height of Dutch men is 1, 81m, and the average height of the Dutch women is 1, 67m.
Although the Dutch are getting taller, they also getting havier. lol

It's a pity that every foreigner talks only of Amsterdam, thinking that that is The Netherlands. But they are very different! Please look further than only Amsterdam

About the cars: It's perfectly doable to have no car in amsterdam and do everything by tram and bus, but that definitely doesn't apply to the entire country. Public transport is also very expensive, not to mention slow. It's fine if you go from city centre to city centre, but for most trips outside city limits, you;re better off with a car.

I’m Dutch and i hate the 3 cheek kisses. I would prefer hugging instead.

That's a very interesting video. 😊 The thing with the three kisses on the cheek is the same in Belgium.😁 Thanks for your impressions, Tim!

I'm 193 myself, I am no longer one of the tallest as I even get the feeling of being small at some times. Kids these days are even taller then I am!

The 3 kisses on the cheek (left, right, left) thing is between men and women (or woman and woman, I do not know about gay men), it's a greeting between friends or family mostly. But most forget that it should be air kisses and not real kisses. In France men also do this to other men, this is also where the Dutch got it from (Napoleonic era)

Curtains are a thing, it just depends on each person's idea of what is comfortable for them. You do see less curtains then in the past though. I personally do wish to have curtains as it adds that extra layer of warmth in winter and keeps the sun out in summer. Also a bonus is that you can walk around naked if you quickly need to grab something without someone seeing what you are doing. The house I'm living in now is old, so people often look inside and to make it worse stand still and look in. Usually tourists though, and as this small city gets flooded with German tourists every year and hardly any other countries visit, you could say it's usually German tourists, haha.

Houses are build like that to make sure everyone gets about the same size of house, garden if possible and nothing looks too different to make it easier for people that didn't come from that area. It's also saving space and showing the Dutch being more humble then others. Problem is that for some odd reason you pay a lot of money even if it's so damn small.

Born at home myself, so is my little sister. The Dutch love to have their kids being born at home for various reasons, no need to travel to see your kids, work reasons, giving a feeling of 'you belong in this house', etc. The safest place to give birth at home is the Netherlands, this has been the case for decades. This also helps with that decision.

I'm in the middle of nowhere, I don't have a drivers licence even if there is only 1 train per hour and 1 bus per hour that both start around 7 AM and stop around 10 PM.

I have curly hair, I couldn't give a damn how I look. I don't use any hair products, I don't even comb it usually. There is simply no need for it as I do not care. But yeah, there are usually younger people that use hair products to look cool even if they don't look cool at all. Kinda laughable and yes I used to do that when I was a teen for some specific moments as well. Not proud of it though.

Congratulating everyone instead of just the actual person is rather strange indeed, however it is out of respect for other people and more for social reasons.

The thing I know about the Netherlands: the men are hot 🔥🔥🔥🔥

No, American suburbs are varied and unique. You don't even have the freedom to decide for yourself what colour curtains you want. Rules, rules rules and regulations, that's America.
Irony so thick you've got to cut it with a knife.

As a Dutchman living near the German border I always notice that when a child asks 'What are we going to eat this evening?' in Germany it's about the kind of meat and in the Netherlands about the kind of vegetables.

No culture shock in the Netherlands. We are totally normal. It's all the other countries that are shocking weird!

Hello, Tim and Dennis! I really enjoyed this video. It's so interesting to hear about Tim's experiences, experiencing the Dutch culture as a German person. I had some Dutch friends in my youth. As you say, they were very straightforward, and occasionally they said things that were surprising! But they were also very kind and caring people, and I was so glad to know them. I also learned about olieobollen from them, so I'll always be grateful! I'm so interested about the birthday party traditions. I started my own tradition regarding my birthdays. I usually take time to send out thank-you cards on my birthday to at least a few friends, and sometimes I give out presents on my birthday as well. I always think it is a good time to thank my friends for all their kindness to me throughout the year, and to make sure they know I am thankful for the gift of their friendship. So I like the idea of sharing the congratulations on a birthday or other special occasion. To me, it sounds really nice! I send hugs and best wishes to you both. Thanks for the great video, and to Tim especially for sharing about his experiences!

Sooo...what is the correct side to start with a cheek kiss?! I'm American, cheek kissing someone other than a family member or very good friend is kind of weird but it never occurred to me that there was a correct side to start. I'm intrigued.

The right into your face thing is only so in the west of the country, east of Utrecht not so much, the Saxons are way more introvert..

Altijd leuk om ervaring van iemand te horen die niet uit Nederland komt.
1 van de betere video's hier op youtube die onder dit onderwerp vallen.
Maar na 9 jaar mag dat ook wel😁

Actually we are not that tall, the English come in hobbit sizes, that's not our fault though..
