Financial problems are the number one reason for divorce. So if someone is in massive debt, starting a marriage from a place of financial strain seems like a wobbly foundation.

If the person does not display financial responsibility run. I can't understand why she's being bashed for not wanting to repay debt she did not help accumulate. Debt is a factor.

It’s not a bad question at least she’s honest

If they are actively paying down the debt and have a plan, that's different then just "having debt". Couldn't marry someone who is just sitting on tons of debt, but if they have a serious mindset to paying it off, I think that shows good character

Women want and need to know a mans financial prospects and men should do the same. People who marry someone with different financial goals are often unhappily married and leads to divorce.

I don't want someone with a whole lot of debt and I make no apologies for that. Dave always preaches that financial issues are the #1 cause of divorce. Yet apparently that should be of no concern when marrying someone. Perhaps extreme debt shows other things like poor judgement.

Yet, 50% of marriages fail due to mainly financial issues. Does Love really save marriages? Being prepared and smart goes a long way.

It doesnt make financial sense to marry someone with a lot of debt

Or have kids

Focus on maturity and building net worth for yourself first. Life will start falling into place when focusing on that.

It's their mindset on debt and the debt they have, not the debt itself. Idc if someone has debt, but do they love being in it? Would they want to attack it? That would determine my decision.

Chloe keep winning. Don’t let some guy use you to pay off his debt and then leave you. Imagine being debt free and then marrying someone with 100k debt that you now have to pay off 😐

I dug myself out of 100k of student loans so my future spouse won't have that debt to deal with. I am with Chloe, no thank you on marrying someone with debt!

Wrong answer! She is saying what you always say! It’s now your debt when your married. She doesn’t want debt!

I find it ironic that some will vastly improve their lives by following their financial advice then ruin their lives by following their relationship advice.

Dave's wrong on this. I absolutely agree with her. She's very very sensible.

How many times have you heard stories of people getting married and get their spouses debt paid off and then that person files for divorce?

I totally agree with her. Why marry someone with such debt? Forget religion ! I wouldn't. It's already misery you are starting your life with.

I have some debt not a lot my husband doesn’t have any debt which I’m thankful for. I just recently started paying by following the baby steps because we are having our first child, my husband knew about my debt and I always told him it was never his responsibility to help me since it was here before him. He gives me money sometimes to put towards my debt which I appreciate!

Very practical advices. Suitable for people like me who tries to practice minimalism. Being debt free definitely cut off unnecessary worries and let’s you focus on things that matters most.

I remember there was a doctor on this show, I think he had upwards of like 1, 000, 000 in debt, and was gonna become a surgeon making almost 1 million a year. I think it matters what the debt is, and what the plan to attack it is.
