My wife of almost 16 years had threatened me with a divorce for 2 or 3 years. I got tired of all of the threats, lies, tantrums, and never having any money for me but all of it for her and our two boys. Finally, she said it one too many times. She told me that the next day she was going to a lawyer and filing for a divorce. I told her that's fine since I was leaving any way. She bawled her head off. I told her to stop crying since she was getting what she wanted all along. That was July 2000 by July 2001 the divorce was final. For the first time in almost 20 years, I felt free to live my own life and not to be put down by her.

My ex wife threatened me on 2 seperate occasions with a divorce after we had arguments about how things should go in the marriage. I told her that the next time she gave me the ultimatum of "do as I want or divorce" that would be the last time.
Well 8 months later she pulled that same card but this time i said ok cool. Funny thing is, she had no reason to believe me since I had caved twice before. She thought I was full of sh*t until I handed her the dissolution paperwork completely filled out and notarized 3 weeks later.
She tried to ask me to reconsider, and stalled on her end of the paperwork for 6 months but after I moved out is when she realized I was gone. That was July 2020 and May 2021 it was official.

My ex-wife threatened for divorce twice. Second time I went and got a lawyer. I was able to get full custody of the kids, child support, and left her with nothing. Not even my last name. Crazy thing is, I was the one taking care of her. She didn't work, I put her through school, etc. Now she's house hoping between Memphis and LA. I'm not praising her demise, but I'm highlighting the lack of appreciation from her and her failed attempts to manipulate the situation to gain leverage. And, oh, 0 accountability.

LOL. My ex was that first one. When I realized that I could be rid of her and her nonsense I said "sign me up". She did everything she could to stall the divorce, but ultimately she couldn't stop it. Best mistake she ever made.

I once had a 'girlfriend' tell me she thought we needed some space. I was pretty upset but I said OK. A couple days later I was getting ready to give her her space and we got in a fight and it comes out that she only said it to see how I would react. I was so relieved. No. The lawyer's stat is unique to her firm. You need to get information from national research, not anecdotal information from individual lawyers.

I love how she states this as being the top 3 reasons she feels/sees, and decides to be ambiguous AS POSSIBLE even when she’s directly involved in those situations and could state real examples w/o having to reveal what parties or couples are involved. Nearly ABSOLUTELY useless information.

You are correct, men don’t like ultimatums. My wife threatened me with divorce and I said yes. She then wanted to go to counseling.

Whether divorce is used as an ultimatum or not the fact still remains that more women file than men. The stat doesn't address nor expose intent, it just states who is filing/initiating divorce the most between men and women. So you are right Melanie. Keep up the awesome content!

Thankfully never been divorced but I had a fiance break up with me for attention. Two weeks later she expected to just walk back in my life like nothing happened, told her I would not ever play that kind of game.

The American Society of Sociologists did a study in 2016 which showed women filed for divorce 70-80% of the time and college educated women (bachelors or higher) filed at a rate of 93%. The lawyer can have her experience when it comes to divorce but the stats say something different
