Your advice is spot on! Start with NOT adding more to your debt.

In the 1980s we incurred a ton of medical debt which was more than our income in a year. We stopped all spending unless necessary and bought food like Potatoes, Rice, Dry Beans, minimal Meat and Produce. You would be surprised how far Rice, Beans and Potatoes last. It took a long time to pay off but watching our money this way helped a lot.

Dawn thank you for collaborating with me. I love your perspective and tips. I completely agree…Balance transfers are really helpful as long as you use it as a tool to pay off your debt as you did.

What kills me the most is how many people are actually in debt constantly! An emergency is one thing or your mortgage, but all the crazy people out there who are spending every last dime that they have, with no though for their future, or savings or their very own children! I do not feel sorry for selfish people that do not use their brains that God GAVE TO EACH ONE OF US!!!

I’m so grateful that I never had to get into debt and I pay cc off every month.

If you have a monthly payment, pay half every 2 weeks, you'll pay off debt much faster because you save on interest.

Consider who you vote for too. Let's get food, gas, medical, etc back to where it was before this current admin. The person ahead of me paid $64 for 16 gal at the pump the other day. $5 for cereal, seriously people.

I learned how to flip inexpensive things.. A woman at the thrift store showed me how to flip furniture.. A friend find flips golf carts in Florida... Some people have enough expertise and money to flip lowcost used cars.

Such great advice! I worked 3 jobs as a single parent just to live. I was able to go to school full time with the help of my parents. I worked part-time throughout my school days. I was able to get a good-paying job after graduation. You do what you have to do to take care of your family. Love to all, Linda 💕

When i had credit card debt, i got a 0 interest credit card and transfered an amount that i knew i could pay off in time. I also tried to put aside a little extra from every paycheck, and when it got to 500 i used it as an extra payment. It was the same as putting extra small payments each paycheck, but psychologically it helped to make bigger payments now and then

Tell your college students to check with you first before they sign up for a loan. There are some crazy predatory loans out there. Give them the deets on credit cards too. Make sure they know if they’re going to dabble with that poison they have to pay it in full every month.

Your best advice here and in all your videos is to weigh all options. Be open to doing things you really do not want to do for a short period of time in order to recover.

Years ago, I worked a full time and was in debt. I chose to take on a part time job for a year. It was hard. I was able to pay off my debt and save some. My part time employer offered me full time hours at a better pay and benefits. I quit my other job. You never know! A relative going through financial troubles said her 36 hour job was enough for her. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices to get ahead.

Good advice! We tend to make different financial mistakes at different ages & stages of our lives. In all stages of life it is always helpful to have a trusted friend or relative look over your expenses/budget. When you are buried you can't think straight. These people will see more ways to get you back on track. Some sacrifices usually need to be made, but most are temporary.

The negative effect of using a balance transfer is that even though it is 0% interest - there also is a 3% fee to use it!

Use your windfalls carefully. We put Christmas cash gifts, wedding money, stimulus money to pay off debt. We didn’t spend it on dinners out, new gadgets, or any frivolousness.

You’re right, and it DOES all seem to happen at once. This is SUCH great advice. It took me 6 years at a sh** job, consolidated my debt (couldn’t get 0%). Figured out how much I could pay a month, paid that plus whatever the interest was that month. That was 15 years ago and now my biggest fear is EVER getting back in debt. Like Dave Ramsey’s wife, I have an emergency account for my emergency account!
