DISCLAIMER: I don't make these videos to sound cool or to scare people but you don't have to deploy to have a dangerous job in the Army. The training is real and experiences can be rough. You will get through it though.

I thought grapple hook man would be used to get to higher places, like a climbing specialist. And from what I heard now I'm just sad.

Like the engineers from WW2 all the way to modern day.. Just haul around & use the Bangalore torpedo.. Just run in front of the machine guns carrying this 5ft tall explosive rod.. avoid the snipers, stick this under or in between the coils of wire get back behind cover & detonate it.. Easy Pvt..

"I am the Grapple Hook Man, I shoot grapple hooks out of my wrists"

"Why would someone want to sign up for this job?"

Because "I clear footpaths for the guys that defuse the bombs" sounds hotter to women than "I work in an office."

Sounds like the tunnel rat. Very dangerous but very necessary.

Definitely one of the more chad class setups you can pick.

Walking meatshield in a minefield?
1. Hopefully it gets better.

Future self: Thank you Everyone. Also, I want to know. In what way are the management department combating this problem? Are they hopefully building devices and portable shields and potential covers? These types of situations are shitty to deal with and while I'm glad I won't experience a loss of comrades anytime soon, just the thoughts of others having to do it is shaking me.

I can't lie, throwing the hook was fun.

Not nearly as much fun as cratering charges, but it's all relative.

Can you pleeeaaasssee make a follow up video explaining what the grapple hook man does exactly, like what they do with the grapple and how they clear a foot path for the next team and how people can die doing it and why it's 0 percent chance living doing it and especially how that guy died in training! While doing it. Please please please, thumbs up the comment so he makes the video and notices we want that info.

Your videos are great man, the experience you have as a combat engineer really makes these videos that extra level of in depth explanation, bravo 👏

How to know when your recruiter is lying. Is his mouth open? And the answer is yes.

As an M1 tanker we practiced breaching without engineer assets. I was the grapple hook tank. We would drive up to the concertina, the loser would get out on the front slope and toss a grapple hook into the wire. This was tide off onto the side bustle rack. We would then back up to break a gap in the wire. We would do this as many times as needed to make a gap big enough to Let the tank with the mine roller through.

"Why do they sign up for this?"
They don't. They're voluntold to.

This is %100 true as well. I’m a 12B and when I went in to the recruiting office they didn’t tell me anything about all the details of a combat engineers job. They just told me you get to blow shit up and that’s the end of it. Now I know I get to step on land mines and run with a grappling hook lol

My grandfather was a combat engineer at D-Day.
