If we consider an old Eastern Orthodox lady in the countryside of Bulgaria who were pius and lived a good Christian life regardless of what Catholics are and/or teach, accepting and openly receiving their sacraments and raising her children in their faith, I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t be accountable for not knowing the indispensability of being inside the Catholic church for salvation. She can be said to be already inside the Catholic Church in a true mystical sense (Pauline theology) when the invisible dimension and symbiosis - in this case, surely - overpass the lack of visible union.

But I was really surprised on the level of anti-Catholicism when I interacted with some native Greek and Russian Orthodox online. I’ve found there is an insane spirit of division, sectarianism, Byzantine Imperialism and arrogance which is co-existential to those communities aimed at us “Latins”’or “Uniates” - hatred being the most plausible explanation I found for it - which resembles the kind of anti-Catholicism there is among Protestant communities in the Anglophone world. When you define yourself foremost for what you are not, I would doubt “invincible ignorance” could be a reason to put aside the “extra Ecclesia nulla salus” dogma, the way Catholic dogmatic theology would understand and formulate it as well as culpability.

Among converts to Eastern Orthodoxy, something similar can be said. Some of the most uncharitable and unpleasant people I happened to find online - with the same “anti-ecclesial” vices, hating any realistic idea of unity - were former Protestants and even former “nominal-only” and uneducated Catholics who just recently converted, maybe following some online apologists on that camp. In this case, I’m doctrinally 100% sure and confident that the Catholic Church would teach they are outside of any possibility of salvation if in that state. That would be different in the case of the Eastern Orthodoxs who understand that divisiveness is a way to tear Christ’s body apart and honestly never cease to try to understand and maybe even appreciate the Catholic Church’s “ethos”, theology and, who knows, solidity of claims, while they leave Eastern Orthodoxy the best they can.

Also I’ve found many cases in which people lost confidence in their Protestant ecclesial communities and decided to convert to Eastern Orthodoxy as a way to further reject and all again refuse the Catholic Church: when understanding ideological anti-Catholicism was there inside Eastern Orthodoxy, they opted for it so that their conversions wouldn’t feel so harsh and traumatic for them or their parents. In this case, even considering the faithful is not to engage particularly in the spirit of the devil (the one who divides) and his divisiveness, there is surely a serious level of responsibility in lacking the perseverance to know and to be/ remain inside the Catholic Church.

Yeah I totally recall when Christ preached that the only way to get to the Father was through the bishop of Rome… lol
