San Jose residents & businesses need a well staffed SJPD that we can rely on.💙🖤

Voters need to explicitly know the criteria that will achieve a well staffed SJPD, and we need to collectively advocate for that for our San Jose.

Lay people need to know the most influential reasons (1) SJPD officers quit SJPD, (2) other police departments are better employers & work environments, (3) why an officer would be motivated to apply and stay with SJPD, and (4) why an officer would be motivated to stay in the profession until retirement.

For example, in the context of nursing, a study of 200 hospitals showed that four of the most influential criteria reported by 150, 000 nurses are:
(1) toxic culture, (2) organizational support, (3) compensation, and (4) workload.

Among the 4 top criteria, Toxic Culture was the most commonly reported problem among nurses who resigned from their employer.

Also, Toxic Culture was the most commonly reported problem post-pandemic.

We called the SJPD to investigate a man multiple residents saw creeping through bushes to sneak onto another apartments balcony - the police came but didn’t even bother to go inside the apartment and check out the complaint. This was a known professional drug dealers apartment, they would have walked away with a lot more than a burglary arrest. Even when you hand over criminals on a silver platter, SJPD just doesn’t care to do the work associated with putting criminals away, their indifference and apathy couldn’t be more palpable. No wonder the entire Bay Area is trash to live in. Bay Area law enforcement could learn a lot from Orange County cops who have kept Orange County a pristine, safe place to live in .

The consequences of defunding the police

One of the reasons San Jose has so few cops is because 20 years ago they didn't need that many. San Jose was a big city with little crime.
San Jose is now a big city with more crime and those veterans have reached retirement age.
All it takes is money.
California has a budget surplus. Give some of that money to San Jose to hire cops. And instead of giving $50b (that's billion with a b) to Ukraine to kill Russians, the Fed should give some of that money to San Jose to hire cops.
