What do you eat when you have Graves' or hyperthyroidism?

Graves' is an autoimmune disease that results in an attack on your thyroid gland and the production of excessive thyroid hormone which causes the symptoms of hyperthyroidism.

So what do you eat if you have Graves' or hyperthyroidism?

What you eat depends largely on what kind of treatment you've undergone for hyperthyroidism.

Those who are in the active stage of hyperthyroidism need to be tested for gluten and celiac disease as well as food sensitivities.

Assessing these areas can help reduce intestinal inflammation and may treat your Graves'.

Those who post thyroidectomy or post radioactive iodine ablation will need a diet tailored to hypothyroid patients because these therapies result in hypothyroidism in the body.

Learn more about how to eat when you have Graves' to help normalize your weight.

HEY GUYS! REMEMBER: if your thyroid has been removed/destroyed with RAI then you are now hypothyroid.

Hello Dr. Childs, if you ever use a computer screen again please adjust the FONT. It was rather a strain to read and learn as your going along, back and forth.

Great information
For me the key was cortisol. I reduced stress, changed job, country, got rid of some toxic people and doing 100 things from early in the morning till late late at night and a year later I stopped the medication cause I felt I didn't need itI informed my doctor about 3 months later after I checked my blood.kept checking every 3 months. Almost 4 years now, still no meds, hopefully it will keep that way

I had no symptoms other than losing weight very easily. The specialist told me 'here, take 6 of these pills for your thyroid, these 3 for your heart'. When I told her I wanted a second opinion for the treatment she started yelling that I could die at any second. I said ok, never went back to her office again. I'm currently being treated with Traditional Chinese Medicine. No gluten, no lactose, no soy, and no sugar & processed foods.

Great information! I did the research and told my first endocrinologist that I believed cutting gluten really helped my symptoms and he said it had nothing to do with eachother but it was my choice if I wanted to do that. I changed doctors and asked if I should get the gluten tests but because I had already cut it from my diet it wouldn’t be accurate and I would have to consume gluten at least for 2 weeks to see if I had the antibodies. It wasn’t worth it to me because I completely feel the difference after going gluten free. Also been taking selenium consistently since being diagnosed and it has been amazing for my immune system! Thanks for confirming that for me.

Thank you so much ; information is very much appreciated. Everything you have just said is so true.
I was diagnosed with diabetes a year ago; put on medication, but decided to treat myself holistically. Because of my age, I was also going through the menopause ; symptoms quite similar hyperthyroid; aches hot flashes weight loss ( diabetes issues).
By eliminating gluten, sugar and “said supplements; all symptoms had gone and gained amazing energy and skin.
Personally I think gluten and sugar contributes to many illnesses. It’s a shame it’s not information given to patients by mainstream doctors.
P.S. even my blood sugar has turned around 100%
DIET IS EVERYTHING!

Thank you so much. The best video about hyperthyrodism that I have watched so far. Very helpful - particularly the connection of gluten (celiac disease) to hyperthyroidism.

Thank you, it's so interesting. May I suggest speaking a little bit slower, so every piece of information will be better assimilated. Blessings!
