My Ultimate Baltic Foodie Tour! | 3 Days In Tallinn, Estonia

Hey YouTube! This time we’ll be going to the Baltic region of Europe - specifically, Tallinn in Estonia. There is a quite amount of things to do in this city, but this video is all about the food and drinks. I’ll introduce you to the local cuisine here as well as the best places (in my opinion) to get an authentic culinary experience. As bonus footage, I’ll show you the hotel where I stayed and the nice ‘perk’ that comes with booking there ;)

OK, so you visited the new modern Estonian restaurants.... and Eesti McDonalds at Viru Gate.... You did not visit what I remember from the 1990's as typical Estonian restaurants. Those served pre-configured plate meals with: 1) A protein 2) rice or potatoes 3) a salad 4) a different sauce on each of the three items. And absolutely no substitutions. I would want to pair chicken or pork with the other rice / potato offered on the menu with another plate meal.... my wife (Estonian) would remind me "No substitutions in Estonia." We have not gotten there yet, but we learned of a restaurant that serves meals like I remember: Halliste söökla. It is in the town of Halliste, which is in Viljandimaa. Look it up.... ERR did an segment / review of it.

I think that McDonalds slow-food restaurant is very accurate and I know why. I don't go to fast food place very often, perhaps once in 5 years and most Estonians are the same, so that means they are not as popular and they can't just pre-make everything in hopes that someone will buy it before it gets too old. SInce menu also have many more items, it is even more complicated. Basically in Estonia fast food chains become pretty much a-la-carte chains with non a-la-carte fast food if we could say that and that is why you have to wait longer.
