I have whole XR set and 12v xtreme set and the 12v is indispensible when working overhead and on ladders. You wouldnt think the extra weight would be noticable but when your arm is extended for hours it makes a big difference.

I mainly do mechanical work and visit junkyards often. The 12v impact driver and wrench have never let me down and is a breeze to carry when walking around a boneyard finding parts!

So your demonstration with the 20V illustrated my consideration of the 12V driver (impact or screwdriver). You started to twist the screw and immediately the speed of the 20V kicked the driver bit out of the screw. Both my thumbs have gouges from the driver bit after it slipped out of the screw (use Robertson screws). My 20v and 18v impacts only have one speed range. Maybe a multi range tool is a good option. Having said that I love 12v tools. I've never not been able to drive a 3" into framing wood. takes a modest amount more time but to keep the bit in the screw head is worth it.

Just bought the 12v extreme. Love it. Plenty of power, light, compact, perfect for what I do every day!

Iv used that 12 volt extreme for 4 years everyday for work, HVAC work and now just recently a job for electrical panel work. never used the settings on the top until now for not stripping screws into the copper strips. settings still work fine after extreme HVAC work in wet and hot conditions after 4 years non stop. O and it has the best light iv ever seen on a drill, lights up dark crawl spaces. I also use Milwaukee and 20v dewalts all the time for other things at work. but this 12 volt never leaves my go bag.

As a small engine technician in the winters I actually find myself going for the 12v more often than not for assembly/disassembly I like that it's weaker than the 20v I'm not as worried about over torquing or snapping off small fasteners and it's still a lot faster than hand wrenching everything

So…. As a builder I run 3 framing crews. 3 trucks each truck has different brand tools . One is all dewalt, Milwaukee and makita. 34 years experience. When you say the 887 is for framing, not really. It works for screws, decking, sheathing..etc. Not good for lags, Flatloks, timberloks, etc, for that you need the 894 or 899.
The 12v is great for installing windows., doors, sliders, trim work with 2 1/4 trim head ss screws, etc.

As a casual noob into home remodeling, the 12v is the way to go for me, I could see myself messing up hugely with 20v from it's sheer powah!

Thanks for the video! Good information! I am exclusively DeWalt. It is easier for me to have one charger type that charges all their batteries. Most of my tools are the 20v platform with a handful on the 60vflex, but a contractor friend convinced me to invest in the 12v drill and driver saying they were small and really excelled at cabinet installs. Without doing my homework, I ordered a set in with 2AH batteries and one 6ah battery so I would have a charged back up. While I can say that I am happy with the 12v drill and impact driver, I have done the size comparison with 20v and 12v tools side by side. The 12v are not any smaller by any useful amount. In fact, the atomic compact 20v impact is smaller than the 12v impact. So…..I have dedicated the 12v tools to my Klein backpack where I have my electrical kit and they are now part of that kit. For anything electrical needing a drill or impact, they will do a fantastic job. My 20v tools are for everything else.

The 885 and 887 are my go to impact drivers. I use the 887 at work daily and the 885 at home. Strong durable drivers that can take a beating on the job or DIY. Great video brother.

As this drivers are all in modes if money isn't a problem go for the bigger one the day you need that performance it will be right there

I have the 12v driver and drill and very happy with the performance for the size and weight. I use the impact driver for removing screws in access panels on commercial aircraft it works a treat especially when removing tank panels over head for hours.

12v tools are so underrated ! I prefer 12v anything for fasteners ….HOWEVER ! You can stack the 5ah on those 12v tools and cruise all day with some power.
Only thing is the batteries go dead faster on the DeWALT platform vs Bosch for sure. Bosch has better batteries and more efficient motors both DeWALT and Bosch make the best 12v tools.

Both of them are great!!!! DCF888 w/ Bluetooth and Electronic Speed Switch selector, and DCF887 is what I use for Driving Torx Deck Screws, Fasten Master Timberlok, and Spax Powerlag screws (NO Pre-drilling) and driving some 1/2" by 4" Lag Bolt (w/ Pre-Drilled Holes) mostly for Heavy Carpentry works, but for Finer and Light carpentry works and especially driving Philips screws DCF885 and DCF801 is what I use. The DCF801 replaces my old Skil 20V Power core Brushed Impact Driver. My DCF888, 887 and 885 are made in USA versions especially 887 comes with a kit along with DCF996 Hammer Drill. For a backup impact driver I have a Craftsman Brushless 3 speed Impact Driver kit (model # CMCF820D2) as a contractor DeWalt and Craftsman is what I use in the jobsite and also at home when it comes to impact driver. Just like my other friends I'm not loyal to any Brand. My circular saw are Bosch CSW41 Worm Drive and Makita 5377MG. For miter saw I have a DeWalt compound miter saw 10" (Non-Sliding) and I got Hitachi 12" Sliding Miter Saw they're all corded. For Hammer Drill and Rotary hammer drill I got Bosch for that corded as well. Even framing nailer I still uses Pneumatic Air Framing Nailer Makita and Hitachi.
DeWalt dcf801 is awesome. It's very small and lightweight even with 5Ah battery pack it's still lightweight. And it is gentle and well balanced. Not too weak and not too powerful it's well balanced just like the dcf885 20V. Either one of them is what I use for Fine and Precise carpentry works and metal works.

I have 4 12v impacts (3 drivers, one wrench) and 5 20v impact drivers, I find myself using the 12v units far more than the 20v numbers because of the weight difference. I also have both the Atomic one handed saw and the 12v xtreme one handed saw and there is little to no weight savings there

5:58 And that's why more power and speed aren't always a good thing.

For cabinetry, I think the Dewalt Xtreme screw driver is a better option. (Dcf601)

It’s 150 rpms faster than the impact driver on screw mode, and it’s clutched. The impact driver on screw mode is almost as powerful as the screw driver in Max setting.

I got both 12v tools.

I use the lvl 1 on the 20v for doing stuff where I don’t want to overdrive. If it isn’t quite enough, I’ll bump to 2. Drywall or assembly of Ikea stuff with plastic thread inserts.

I actually use the DeWalt 12v screw gun more than the 12v impact 🤷🏻‍♂️.... If you haven't used the screw gun check it out.

If you do small engine repair go with the 12 volt, that 20 is easy to strip stuff.
