Future Trunks was trained by Gohan. So he had calmness which Goku and Gohan posses. Where as kid Trunks was trained be Vegeta and he had his father aggressive and pride nature.

I like how it displays the value of both nature and nurture. They both have the same thoughts and goals, but the one that grew up rich with an aggressively supportive father intimidates and shows off in order to achieve, whereas the one from a poverty stricken broken world with no living father figure is introverted and subdued. Same nature, different means because of nurture.
