I used to only buy used back in the day (90s early 2000s). Back when it was much easier to work on your own car in your yard or self help garage. Plus the way my bank account was set But now bothe those things have changed, my bank account and the ease of working on your own vehicle. I now buy new and have been blessed enough to buy semi luxuary vehicles ($100K) range. It also brings piece of mind because i can get in it and dont worry about it breaking down with maintaining proper maintenance. And i have been fortunate that I get big discounts on that part too.

This is a great video. Would be nice to see a comparison of average sales price vs retail price. Percentages change significantly, themes are similar.

Never bought a new car and thanks to that I owned 3 Cadillacs, Lincoln, Mercedes and Infiniti (my daily driver now). You are absolutely correct, a few years old luxury car is better than new run of the mill car in every way, more power, features, handling etc.

I'm surprised Maserati wasn't on this list.

I bought a 2013 Q5 with 82, 000 km last year at 75% depreciation. After 12, 000 km and spending $1, 200 to replace some worn parts and front tires it's running well. Only medium term issue is oil as it's on pace to use up 1 quart of oil every 10, 000 km.

Despite the niggling costs, I will put this car to good use someday as my place of residence has a petrol for EV replacement scheme that waives the 110% import tax on EV cars at up to $35, 000. I'll trade in this Audi once EV cars become mainstream and new ones falls to my budget of $30, 000.

Nice video! I am glad I ran into this as I am in the market. If you can take advantage of depreciation as a tax deduction its worth the new ride with new tech. Other than that, you are spot on! Buy used!

I do and keep them for over several years
Take care of them and don’t have high repair costs with extended warranties. Don’t want to buy someone else’s problem unless I know how it was driven
