Long has the 3-series been the king of the sport sedan market. However, competition has been more fierce in the recent years. Take the Acura TLX Type-S; mainly meant to compete with the M340i, it has a turbo 6 cylinder engine, adaptive suspension, and looks to back it up. Can it finally take down the sports sedan king? On this episode of EatSleepDrive, we find out.

It’s a great car. People expect daily drivers to be race cars, which misses the plot. It’s a sport sedan and it accomplishes that.

0:58 It’s not wider than a base TLX. They have the same exact body except for a splitter under the front bumper and open (rather than fake) front corner air intakes, and the rear diffuser area to accommodate the quad exhaust tips.

Nice review. I like Acura, I own a 2023 Integra A Spec trim. A wonderful car to drive with fantastic handling and driving dynamics and the engine is very fuel efficient.

I got avg. 29 mpg for my m340i Xdrive, on pure highway it hits 38 mpg.
This TLX is 1 sec slower and also burns much more fuel, with many techs lacking…

You have a helpful perspective on this car. I’d look at it used if the price was right, but they nerfed the enthusiast aspect.

I have older Acuras where the drive select buttons are lower down on the center console, where your hand naturally falls (where a normal shifter would be). It’s way better than this positioning in newer Acuras and find it to be intuitive and easy to use.

C/D said that the TLX base suspension setup is like older BMWs, just good at everything.

I think it's a miss using the M340i as the comparison. Not many people actually cross shop those two cars. Fairly big price difference and fan base.

We have the same Acura entertainment tech in our RDX. After several years we still don’t like it. Definitely the worst aspect of an otherwise very nice SUV.

They do not! Great car but it is underpowered and the infotainment, at least on the one I had, was horrible! Car looked great and handled like it was on rails but it is not exciting to drive at all so I got rid of it and got a BMW M550i.

It’s a beautiful car but a couple of things that bother me with Acura's are, they all have this GIANT goofy button in the center of the console for drive modes, even the SUV's. I don’t want to show my passengers what I’m doing nor do I want to reach way over to activate. It should be on the steering wheel making it easy to go from Canyon driving to City then highway driving. Also give me a traditional leather wrapped shifter, that is part of the sporty driving experience.
I also wouldn’t mind if the car was 10 percent smaller. (I feel better now, Thank you.) 😌

Buy it and put 50k miles ( which is 3 years average) on that and on BMW . And see the price! Acura is holding a price 3 times better.

I love the look of the TLX Type S. I have a MDX Type S to hall my family around. I originally wanted the TLX Type S but the 340i's B58 gets way better MPG with its performance. I get it you don't buy luxury for MPG but it's a really nice benefit. If Acura can't make it more fuel efficient, i think they should add a bigger fuel capacity. 300 or less miles per tank and only having 355HP kind of sucks.

Three words. Front wheel drive. No FWD is comparable to German cars. 👎
