Here at JoBlo we got the need, the need for speed! Yes, It was the Reagan era of high-octane cinema and nothing says let's go better than an 80s action movie. Some claim It was the golden era of action cinema and one of the biggest all American action movies to come out of that time was Top Gun, starring the immortal death-defying wonder from Syracuse, New York, Tom Cruise.

Directed by the late great Tony Scott, Top Gun would go on to be one of the most iconic films of all time, launching Tom Cruise into A-List territory. Fast forward thirty something years later, we are hit with a global pandemic and so many movies were scrapped, postponed, or even went straight to streaming. Luckily, one of the oldest movie studios on earth, Paramount Pictures, made the right decision to release the sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, into theatres at the right time, breaking records and making audiences love blockbuster cinema again.

However, now that the movie has set the box-office alight, it is currently available to stream on Paramount+ and available on 4K plus BluRay. Also, now that most of the world has seen both movies, it begs the question, Which Top Gun movie soars the highest? So, grab your flight gear, your skin tight jeans, your volleyball, footballs, and your great balls of fire and set the missiles locked-on....For another FACE-OFF!

This episode of FACE-OFF was written and edited by Jay Saint. G, narrated by Shawn Knippelberg and produced by Adam Walton and Chris Bumbray, while Berge Garabedian is executive producer.

The 2 minutes and 33 seconds of Maverick's run of the training course is one of the best things I have ever seen put in a movie. No dialogue, just visual storytelling with pitch perfect editing catching each angle of the inverted descent into the rollover to the up close shots of the G-force effects on Cruise's face. Incredible movie, and while I don't think it has a chance against some of the others in its category, to me it was the best movie of last year, despite my love for Everything Everywhere All At Once.

No green screen in the world can create a more immersive feeling than following the actors on REAL jets, flying FOR REAL

While I liked both films, Maverick was more mature in tone compared to its predecessor, and allowed for its characters to grow in between movies. Plus, they had a fitting, bittersweet send-off for Iceman.

Both movies are phenomenal!!! I think what made Maverick even more special is that in the current movie era where every beloved IP is being destroyed, Maverick sticks to it's guns and gave the audience what they wanted, staying to true to the original and only building from it.

I think they come as a package deal. No top gun = no maverick. Maverick is shiny and new, but top gun is a nostalgic trip to the 80s action genre.

Top Gun Maverick is incredible! Best movie experience seeing it in theaters I ever had. The action was epic. It had it comic relief moments like all truly great action movies possess. The choices of the supporting actors of John Hamm and Miles Teller were spot on. Giving Val Kilmer a role with all the has gone through/going through was the right move and woven in the storyline where it didn't seem forced and led for a heartfelt moment.

The 80's truly was the golden era of action movies. This one is an interesting face-off because it feels a bit more apples to apples in its comparison and gives us a good look back on the franchise.

It wasn't Paramount that saved TG:M from streaming on the internet instead of landing in the theaters. It was Tom Cruise.

Joseph Kosinski was the reason why I went to see the sequel

I'm a fan of his work, since TRON LEGACY

I love both films. But I love the sequel even more.

Both movies are awesome. 1 is an 80s classic and 2 is one of the best films of 2022.

Now I’m 51 so I have an infinite amount of nostalgia for the original, and I can watch it over and over again, but there is no competition. Top Gun Maverick is a phenomenal piece of movie making, and it is physically and emotionally. exhausting to watch it 😂

PRACTICAL EFFECTS BEFORE CGI

That's my motto

With the plot of Top Gun Maverick about flying a near impossible flight, it sounds like Ethan Hunt could have recruited Pete Mitchell

You forgot another reason why "Maverick" tops the original: Tom Cruise RUNNING, AND RUNNING WHILE WEARING HIS FLIGHT SUIT!!!

I like both films. But if I had to pick which one I prefer it would have to be Top Gun:Maverick.

I just have to point out because this is something a lot of people seem to misunderstand. Rooster does NOT hold a grudge against Maverick for what happened with his father, they've had their whole lives to grow up together, as Rooster was just a little kid when his dad died and it's heavily implied that Maverick would have been a surrogate father figure in many ways for rooster. Rooster holds a grudge because he wants to honor his father by following in his footsteps and resents that Maverick held him back in his military career by keeping him from going to the Naval Air Academy. We as the audience learn in the movie that it was at the request of Rooster's mom Carole Bradshaw who makes Maverik promise not to let Rooster put himself in danger. Maverick doesn't want anything to happen to the kid either, because if rooster dies then that is the end of Goose's legacy, and Maverick wants to keep his promise to Carole because he still feels guilty about what happened t o Goose, even though nobody, including Rooster, blames Maverik for what happened. Rooster doesn't know that. He Just thinks Maverick is gatekeeping him because he isn't good enough to live up to his dad's legacy.

Objectively speaking Top Gun: Maverick might be better than the first but Nostalgicly speaking the original is still my favorite.
But I absolutely love both movies!

Both movies are awesome, but I feel that coming to love interest between Charlie and penny, both are good in their own way, maverick and Charlie were hot, Maverick and Penny were mature and aged and looked really sweet. Penny was really cute.

All cool, great video, except for one detail. Tom did fly his P-51 in Top Gun Maverick but no jet.
