I don't know too much about the plot of this game, but one interesting point, I think, is what else the shashka represents. The shashka was a broad term for basically all sabers in the caucus. This included the west caucus, Circassia. The Circassians were a people similar to the Cossacks, but they were more resilient to Russian imperialism. Therefore, there was a "forced relocation, " considered by some to be one of the very first genocides in history. Many Circassians died out, and the majority of the surviving diaspora lives in either turkey or throughout the middle east. While not super strong, I believe there may be some themes of genocide in the Phantom Pain, and the shashka could be thought of as a symbol of genocide, as they were used by both Cossack and standard Russian forces as the most common saber, and used against/stolen from the Circassians who used them themselves. I'm not sure, that's just my two cents on the matter. I'd love to hear it from someone who actually played the game.

idk why everyone's hating on it, i thought this was very interesting and this was one of my favorite tapes. i thought ocelot was really well done in this game.

I always mixed up Ocelots and Millers voices. They sound way to similar and it was sometimes really hard to follow conversations if both of them were present in a conversation but not visible.

Edit: Since it came up like 3 times over the last two days, guys I'm a non-American, non-Native English speaker. If the two have vastly different accents then so be it. Doesn't change a thing about the fact that when the two are speaking I can't tell who says what.

Maybe I phrased it wrong: I know their voices are different, that's not the issue. I just can't seem to keep in my head whose voice belongs to whom. As in you could play me a recording of say Miller and tell me it's Ocelot talking and I'd believe you if the spoken text had no context clues.

For somebody who's a native speaker it might be painfully obvious that "Oh yeah, Miller's the guy with that accent" and Ocelot is the other one. It'd probably be the same for my mother tongue too. I just wasn't able to tie a certain voice to a certain character.

Sharashka sounds a lot like the Persian word Shelakhte(شلخته) which also means hastily thrown together and untidy and given how Dari is basically Farsi with minor differences
