If you eat a lot of rice, or, on the flip side you avoid it then these are factors you really ought to know. And if really your true concern is 'does it make me fat' then i am talking about that too.

Looking at research white rice is a refined grain and diets high in refined grains are linked to obesity and weight gain, the research is inconsistent when it comes to white rice many studies find no link.

Makes sense if you think about because we are using observational evidence on populations.
PLUS the fact that rice is not inherently fattening.

That said, eating diets high in whole grains like brown rice is better. That's because it contains the bran and germ of the rice grain, more nutritious and contains more fiber which makes it more filling, better for your microbiome and for gut issues. So if you've got an hour to cook your rice then you should be doing brown rice more.

And here's the most important thing to consider... Millions of people eat white rice every day.
Actually it's probably hundreds of millions of people.

For the vast majority it is a versatile, tasty, great source of energy. Really good and healthy for them.
But context is important, and always forgotten in nutrition it seems.

For those who already eat a lot of calories, or have extra weight they'd like to lose, then white rice is not a fantastic choice. Especially when we have the option of brown rice, which has twice the amount of fiber.

Does that mean you should never eat white rice, no not at all. Eat it when the occasion calls for it, don't feel bad about, just try to cook some brown too sometimes.

Finally a more open opinion on white rice. I have a lot of food sensitivities due to mold toxicity. I have developed issues with oxalates and white rice has been a safe food for me as opposed to brown rice which is high in oxalates. But I keep hearing that white rice is really bad for you. Well, too bad because I need some safe foods and alternatives in my very restricted diet so I'm going to continue eating white rice on occasion 🍚. I didn't think it was that bad to do so and I'm glad you agree.

In Asia rice is an everyday food. It clearly shows which region has more overweight people. At the end of the day when you want to lose weight it all about the intake and spent calories

All the hype about "bad" foods seems to be mostly directed at traditional foods like grains, dairy, meat and fruit. Maybe because certain companies would prefer that ppl live off their "meal-replacement" diet foods.

I'm not going to eat brown rice or whole grain rices any longer due to the lectins in the rice which I have heard more than once, are very bad for you. Any thoughts on this? :)

I cook rice, 1/2 dry rice per 1 tsp coconut oil. Refrigerate overnight. Then eat. Cuts calories by 40%

White rice is super high glycemic, and spikes blood sugar which is exactly what you dont want on any diet. You want a more flat insulin response and level over a long period of time. Hence why common sense should be telling people if they want sustainability they should be eating lower glycemic foods. Additionally if you combine high glycemic with high fat over an extended period you will gain weight if running a calorie surplus and more importantly this combination will lead to metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.

Also, consider Walter Kempner's famous "Rice Diet" research at Duke in the 1950's. I seem to recall some amazing recovery examples of people eating predominantly white
Great video per your usual.

I've lately been eating white rice because right now I'm on medications that give diarrhea and white rice has really been helping me solidify my stools recently. Thank you so much!

Would you say that rice, whether white or brown, contains arsenic and mercury and should be avoided after all?
