I got really pissed off when they started deleting the audio jack, micro sd slot and they stopped shipping with chargers. I'm talking to you Samsung. And I hate the Samsung bloatware.

Blackberry was a pretty great company now that you think about it. Made money off hardware not spying on you

Rob, as a guy in the IT sector (a little too much, lol), I really look up to you and you have inspired some ideas in me. Keep publishing this content, my friend!

Rob, here's a story you can tell people who don't care about their privacy. I am a software developer. Back in the 80s I sold some software to someone and went to give him some tech support. When I entered his apartment is was a room full of tables with devices on them. He said he was a dealer of "spy equipment". As I was working he was opening his mail and he chuckled as he pulled out a check and showed it to me, $5000. He was somewhat a braggart. He said he was at a restaurant and overhead a conversation in the next booth between businessmen. He had a briefcase with a tape recorder and he recorded their conversation. They were apparently discussing some illegal money dealings. Somehow he found out who one of them was and sent them a copy of the tape. An easy $5000. Any embarrassing information people can get on you, doesn't have to be illegal, can be used to get money from from you. And a lot of that information is on the cell phones. If governments can tap into your phones, so can hackers. Any questions?

It's funny how some phones are getting the ability to track accidents and especially health issues. Imagine if the phone can purposely make a person panic about their health and get them to spend money on pharmaceutical medicines and doctor visits instead of home remedies for treating a common cold.

Good luck on the release! As someone with small hands, and a one handed swiper, I'm still holding out for someone to bring back a < 5" Android-capable device. In the meantime, I've got two 7yr old Sony Compact xz1 phones that I'm keeping alive with LineageOS.

I have a Fairphone 4 and it is a pretty standard cheap Android (but it is NOT cheap itself). What makes it special is it's serviceability. You can easily take it apart and replace all parts. Privacy is not their concern. But all drivers are openly available.

I have a degoogled Fairphone 3 and it works perfectly. It is old school in that the battery is removable and replaceable. It doesn't have flagship specs but unless you're gaming it doesn't matter. ;)

Rob, would love you to follow up with another video discussing governance around these open source projects combating supply chain risk. The recent issue with XZ Utils comes to mind. I can't imagine that all of these projects are governed equally. How can the average privacy informed consumer tell the difference? Would love to hear your perspective as always.

I've been watching your channel now for a couple of years, today I just came across this video and noticed I was not subscribed. I really wonder if Youtube unsubscribed me as I was pretty sure I was subb'd to your channel before.. Google Shenanigans! Thankyou for posting this video, more people need to be aware of privacy issues on mass marketed phones.

Nice summary. It's comprehensive while still staying simple and to the point. All your videos are comprehensive, but sometimes they can be a bit long and hence hard for people to listen to, but I wouldn't say that it was the case here.

One thing that might have helped the video would have been to add screenshots of the GUI, or even just their logos or website or such.

Really great to hear about the affordable price for the Brax 3 device.
