'1941' was one of John Williams's most impressive scores. Sadly overlooked, and highly underrated.

I don't care what anyone says I personally love this movie, specifically the longer, superior, restored Special Edition Director's Cut. Always have. Love the scenes such as Dan Aykroyd as US Army motor pool maintenance Sergeant Frank Tree demonstrating perfectly to Bed Beatty how NOT to load and operate the 40mm anti-aircraft gun, Christopher Lee as the German Kriegsmarine Captain von Kleinschmidt, Slim Pickens, etc.

I LOVE this movie! I was really glad that they kept John Belushi's part as small as possible while having enough time to make it memorable! Ned Betty had a great part in this and he well be missed greatly. Good timing with his passing. Thanks Minty!

I saw this movie for the first time years ago. After the first few minutes i was like "What the hell am I watching?" but as the movie went on, it got better and better! IMO this movie is SEVERELY underrated, and deserves way more credit than it gets. Being a child of the 80's, i always thought this movie was more a spoof on the Cold War mentality of that time, than something based on an event from the 40's. Either way, whenever i see this movie pop up on a streaming service, i try to make the time to watch it, if anything, just to see Belushi and Akroyd in there prime, along with so many other GREAT actors of that period.

They used to play this on cable all the time back in the 80s. I watched it every time it came on!! Still holds up as a great movie!

John Belushi will never be replaced. From his comedy relief to his on screen presence. Top 5 comedian ever for me. 👍

Finally a movie my grandfather used to explain WWII to me as a 10 year old. My grandfather had really weird sense of humor, and he was stationed in California then in Pacific as a ham radio operator. He thought this movie was the best way to explain his own thoughts

In Animal House, Belushi’s character, Bluto, asks “Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?” I’m convinced that line got him the part in 1941.

Saw 1941 when it first came out, and loved it right from the start, and went back to the theater more than once. The Director's Cut, which is 26 minutes longer, makes it an even better movie. Watched it again recently, and I still love it. A near-masterpiece, and funnier than any comedy made today.

My Dad was a Set Painter for this movie. We lived in Westchester(LA county)& I wasn't even in Kindergarten yet. I still remember him coming home at night with some goodies from catering! My favorite movie out of the ones he worked on.

I love this movie, but how can you not mention the great Slim Pickens?!! He gives a classic performance.

You omitted Slim Pickens from the veteran actors list. A glaring omission.
The production quality and historical accuracy of the props were incredible in 1941.

The moment where John Belushi fell off the plane, and hurt himself, is not the clip that Minty featured. The moment happens when he is about to take off from Colonel Maddox's airfield. He was climbing back into his plane, and you see his foot slip off the wing. This happens right before the take where he says the signature line, "My name's Wild Bill Kelso, and don't you forget it!"

Black sheep!? I first saw this marvelous comedy on Showtime and bought it on VHS the first moment I got. Later in the late 90s, I bought it on DVD. I have always loved this movie.

This is a very funny movie. I love Dan Ackroyd's character giving his big patriotic speech.
"You think the Krauts believe in Walt Disney? Was that Mickey Mouse I saw blitzkrieging across France? Pluto over Poland? Or Donald Duck at Pearl Harbor?! This time we free the world or we lose it. This time we win or die trying! We didn't start this war but by God, we're gonna finish it! *air raid siren blares* This is it! Let's show those lousy Huns what we got!!!"
