It's usually going to be cheaper to build a PC yourself, but even here this isn't exactly a 1:1 comparison. That Alienware Aurora R13 uses DDR5 memory and a DDR5 motherboard, while yours is using the prior generation of DDR4. Your M.2 SSD is also a gen3 while the R13 uses a gen4 SSD. I'm not sure what other parts you've skimped on, but the R13 also has integrated RGB LEDs all over the place that can all be set independently or sync'd. If you made a true competitor with the same parts the price would still be more for the alienware, but likely only by $200-300. So, what does that extra "Alienware tax" money buy you? Your own time, less stress, convenience, 24x7 technical support with a solid warranty where they will send a technician out to your house next day to replace parts if any components fail, and more.

Now, don't get me wrong.. I've been building my own PCs since the days of the 386/486 in the late 80s and i couldn't even count how many different PCs I've built throughout the years, and I had a great time doing it. I was an early adopter of desktop linux back in the days of dialup internet and spending countless hours tweaking things to get everything working. Again, I loved it and learned so much, but it's not for everyone; in fact, I would say it's not for most people.. And saying that Alienware is a scam because you can build something yourself cheaper is disingenuous at best.

The service is what matters.
My Alienware died on location hours from anywhere, and they sent a tech out and repaired my computer within 3 days.
Also when the great GPU shortage happened it was much cheaper to get a Alienware.

Technically pre-builts can be alot cheaper than the actual graphic card by itself when scalpers are involved

I have an a Alienware Aurora and never had any problems. Yes, I paid a little more, but that is because I didn't want to build my computer this time.

I just purchased a pre-built with a 4090 for $300 less than its components! $1000 off for Christmas in July, 10% off from coupon, and $150 cash back from American Express rewards program. You will always find good and bad deals from every company! Be patient and always keep an eye out.

Or I can just spend the extra 700 be lazy and not have to build it

Also, these pcs are built for you from dell but you have to wait, from Amazon they are all assembled and ready to go, you pay more for that availability, and overall the price itself has a warranty with it, which some parts might not have. Not to mention assembly cost. But yea I wish they were cheaper

I think I got 800 off for post Christmas sale and it’s only 100 for assembly. Not too shabby

Don’t buy an Alienware PC it’s terrible. I went to a store one time at Best Buy and it said that it was liquid cool. I looked in there. It was a CPU fan cooler. It wasn’t liquid cool at all.

Got mine in 2018 for 1000 when 1070's were going for 600. It still runs everything above 60 fos. Now, I'm slowly upgrading each part until I eventually will just throw everything into a new case.

The best number for all the pre builds out there, get it immediately and didn't have to go for all the trouble and stress of testing every single component

you can always save DIY but I enjoy the no hassle warranty. Ive only had one issue ever but it was fixed pretty quick.

I got it an r13 with an i9 and a 3080 for 1400, which I think is somewhat of a steal

That's odd. I just bought an R14 with a Rizen 7 5900x, 64 gigs DDR4, 1 T M.2, 1 T ssd, and Raduon 6900 xt. For a grad totally of $1, 672.76 with tax. Oh and that includes the cryo cool, back cover, clear side, and windows 11 pro.
You can't build that for under $2500 if you shop for deals.
3 years of support and a 1 year replacement warranty on all parts. That's another $200 easy.

Oh and I'm running DCS and I racing and never gets above 82c.

You supposed to buy a pre built when its on sales for a discount its like buying a cra you don’t pay sticker price 😅

Don't listen to this guy, he forgets to mention that when you buy a pre-built you are going to have a hassle free experience out of the box, not to mention Alienware on site replacement or repair and tech support. I have the Aurora R15 and it is a cool running beast. I've owned Alienware products for years and highly recommend.

Obviously everything that you make/build yourself is gonna be cheaper BUT you are paying for the convenience of just receiving the computer, plug and play, also warranty and technical support
