I love how pointed out linked the English civil war to this period. I try to explain how the two are connected to American friends and family, but they do tend to gloss over as I start to explain 😂

Was it really a social revolution or just a war of secession and independence from the British Empire?

I wish his YouTube version of the podcast had the pictures he references like this does.

This is so funny. Mike does a podcast about Rome. "I learned so much " the comments section says. Does a podcast on the English Revolution to wild acclaim. Then he does a podcast on the American Revolution and everyone is a fn expert.

Is this the same guy that did the history of Rome podcast? Sounds like it

There are a good few things Mike Duncan misses out on, or rather hints at, but doesn't focus on. First America had truly become culturally separate from Britain. There are a lot of reasons for this, and if anyone asks, I'll answer. Second America really did function separately of the British economy and had lost its reliance on the old mercantilist ties that had bound. Third, there was a severe lack of capital in the colonies to pay taxes. Yes, the colonies were doing decent economically, but that wasn't really in the form of hard currency. There's a few other things to point out, but those are the main ones.

You should read John Adams letters where he rails against the Puritans (or the congregationalist as an offshoot was called). His letters to his then-grown son after John Quincey converted to presbyterianism were full of firey debates with John always recommending books.

Two words for Rhode Island: Roger Williams. He was excommunicated by the Puritans so he went to live with the native Americans. He named Providence. He wrote, The Bloody Tenant of Persecutions. How's that for a good start to Rhode Island!

Lecture needs to recognize nature's bounty which gave the illusion of freedom or endless economy based on finite resources or resources to be held in reverence and continued sustainability..Did Not Camden, NJ have its own Tea-party tossing British Tea into the Delaware; by the Society of the Redmen?
