You know its an in-depth account of the English Civil War, when you don't hear Cromwell's name til almost the 3rd hour! ❤❤❤

If you want to swell an Englishmans heart; have an American recite him his history (and pronounce the place names correctly!)

Awesome work - many thanks

After listening to a podcast series about Romans, now I get to see what the descendants of Romanized barbarians are up to.

I live in - the above mentioned - Newark, England and work in Kelham, Where Charles 1st surrendered to the Scots.

Well, he actually he surrendered just near it, on what we locally call Edinburgh Islands (because that's where the Scots were based of course). I've been listening to this during the quiet periods at work and it's crazy to think I ride my bike along the very path Charles was taken in the very moments after he surrendered and was taken to the nearby ancient village of Southwell. Today Kelham is a very very quiet area of the countryside, a tiny village amongst so many others, thr field where he surrendered is just that, a field, unmarked, and you'd have no idea at all that anything of this importance happen there.

This podcast is like the best kept secret of the history podcast scene. I’m sure the man in charges of it wishes somebody would spill the fucking beans already. I agree. This guy deserves more attention, damn fine work.

King Charles was 48 years old and had been emperor just shy of 24 years before the Senate signed his death warrant at the urging of the Praetorian guard.

Had a Stuart England class in college w/Brian Levak at UT-Austin. It was a great class, as was Tudor England. This thing covers it even better than the semester long class! Great job !!

My favorite part of the English civil war was the Short, Short Parliament.
"Do you agree?"
"No!"
"Do you agree?"
"No!"
"Good! We disagree! Parliament dissolved!"

I have found that listening to this lecture, it is as if Macaulay himself is delivering the oration. I will never tire of reading Macaulay and his chronicles of history, especially this subject of the English revolution. You and him have a very unique ability to convey to the listener/reader, a spirit of presentation that encompasses a most suitable form of Gallows Humor.
