Unlike the English Civil War series, I will be uploading the American series in shorter parts. This one contains Mike's episodes about the beginning the war. The maps which accompany these episodes were intended to be viewed in congruence with the series by Mike Duncan.

Time Stamps:
00:00 Episode 21 - The Guns of Ticonderoga
29:55 Episode 22 - Independence
1:00:48 Episode 22a Supplemental - The Declaration of Independence
1:10:00 Episode 23 - Crossing the Delaware
1:38:36 Episode 24 - Saratoga

Why did the colonists think taxation was unjust? Did the crown not just fight the 7 years war/French and indian war (at GREAT cost) to secure the land for the colonists? Then when the crown imposes a couple tariffs to help repay the massive costs of the war the colonists get that angry? And they're mad about housing british soldiers, but they requested the military aid when it came time to fight the hostile natives and French...
I read an interesting book that mentioned it was estimated only 25% of colonists supported the rebellion, most were loyalists or neutral. Also the war time propaganda was in full swing in the colonists newspapers, accusing the British of atrocities and such as a way to gain support. Heh, not much has changed there lol.
Just really seems like the colonists weren't putting up some heroic stand against tyranny, the British had a bill of rights of their own, which is largely what our initial bill of rights was modeled after. The king wasn't a tyrant, at this point the kings power was quite throttled by the parliament.

At any rate, our founding fathers rebelled over the smallest reasons. Imagine what they would think of our government today, far FAR worse than king George was. And we do nothing.

Criminal neglect of Washington’s (late) use of spies, espionage, of which the colonists were woefully lax compared to the British (and all of Europe), any cursory reading of Alexander Rose’s exemplary “Washington’s Spies” would not only alter one’s understanding of the real (and virtually insurmountable) odds the colonists had dealing with these ever present but never discussed agents but a new appreciation that the colonists survived! Men such as young John Clarke Jr - in my opinion, saved the Continental army in the fall of 1777, and without Rose I do wonder if he would ever have had his sue. Btw, his letters, agent reports, Washington, are in the National Archives and available online - Washington’s reports or instructions to Clarke however, do not survive, had Clarke been caught with even a fragment of one he would have been hung on the spot.
