Dude been follow you forever I’m 59 and been training for awhile -40 years ! Last 4 years dialed in on diet and feel I’m ready to do a classic physique masters show . I’ve given myself lots of time -I’m currently 5’11 194 lbs shows in 44 weeks - realistically 180lbs I would be peeled . Would your contest prep book work for me ? I can do this without a coach . Dedicated and been resilient as a fuck last few years . Bucket list goal - as I wasted my youth. Merry Christmas to you and family .

Low fat diets cause insulin resistance, and low protein diets cause sarcopenia, low carb diets don’t cause any of these problems, so obviously if you’re reducing calories carbs are the best macro nutrient to reduce.

I get my leanest by increasing carbs. It allows me to plow through cardio. I've found cutting out carbs just gives a temporary water weight loss. Which I think many people mistake for a fat burning effect.

Nothing wrong with sharing an opinion but what makes it tough is when people believe whatever comes out of their mouth because of high status/fame. I followed locarb philosophy awhile back for a few seasons. I learned that my strength gets cut in half, muscles have no pop and look skinny. Plus its a disaster trying to manage that diet in a culture dominated with carbs. So no thanks, Id rather enjoy life with balance and flexibility to look, feel and express my best self!

There once was a man named Layne
Who fact-checked quacks of disdain
But, before his lament
I pause to comment
So the algorithm will help him gain

When I first started seeing Laynes videos... I wasn't crazy about him. Now I pretty much go straight to him for any nutrion questions I'm pondering. This guy knows his stuff and spreads absolutely unbiased, fact based content. Thanks for all the help in helping me in my journey to my ideal body composition.

Layne, nobody was thinking about the results of a fight.
But that "that's why you gas out" was a KO

Loved your episode on Dr. Huberman podcast brother ! Hopefully down the road you can make small YT shorts and explaining stuff like ATP, ADP, Krebs cycle and other similar videos all while dumbing it down for people like us to understand it thank

Layne keeping it real and sane, as usual 👌

I can't find it anymore, but I remember a chart from a study that had a band where when fats and carbs get within 30-50% of each other there's some kind of metabolic problem (because of the Randle Cycle?). Since almost all high carb, high fat foods are within this band (cakes, cookies, candy bars, fast food, etc.), you would want to restrict or eliminate these foods for HEALTH reasons whether you are restricting calories or not. Yes?

I always try to give a like only at the end of a video and if I actually liked it, rather than just liking it because I think the person has great content in general or w/e. But you almost got me there at the start haha.

And in terms of the topic...yeah, totally fell for that stuff years ago. But eventually I learned that there is a difference between not needing something, just functioning/surviving and high performance or even just decent performance.

My problem with carbs is once I start eating some I can't resist pigging out on more. It creates unstoppable cravings lol. This is my biggest reason for staying very low carb.

LOL @ "Maybe that's why he tends to gas in his fights". Ouch man.

Great video as always. Small correction - erythrocytes are indeed obligate glucose users, CNS isn't. But the main message is correct - we don't need carbs in general. Though we do need them for intense bouts of anaerobic exercise.

Layne, you will probably will not reply but I would be really happy if you could review the huge study that showed that the more people ate carbs the more likely they where to develop alzhimer.

So, is a ketogenic diet suboptimal for the preservation of lean mass in a caloric deficit?
