Harbor Freight Predator 9500W inverter generator test (Shouldn't have Ads)

This video is not "Alexa" friendly, your echo device may respond. First test of Harbor Freight 9500W Inverter Generator running the whole house. To be more specific, AC, lights, TVs, two refrigerators. No dryer, no oven, no dish washer, no water heater. It will run these individually but would need to be closely managed. Sorry about inferring I had a well pump as well earlier, corrected.

I installed a Sure Start on my 4 ton AC compressor, reduces LRA from 104 Amps down to 23-26 amps. Easy for generator to start.

I also have 10KW solar system which must be turned off. The inverter generator has very clean power and if the solar inverter were to turn on it would likely damage the generator and itself.

This was a 2 hour run ahead of hurricane season. The old generator worked but was at the limits of its capacity and also VERY loud. This one is neighbor friendly and has power to spare! It also powers the many UPSs in the house, the old one wouldn't do this, power frequency too unstable.

I bought one about 3 weeks ago. Did the cumulative 24 hour break in changing the oil at 8 hour intervals, the neighbors really love me for that one. Will be installing my generator input socket and transfer/breaker interlock kit this weekend. I’m gonna wait til the warranty runs out before I order and install the tri-fuel kit; always the best to have additional fuel options. Just in time for tropical cyclone season…

Thank u for posting this, I just picked up mine two days ago. Currently waiting on having the transfer switch installed and the Soft Start on the AC. Great vid! Videos for the 9500 are very few.

Thank you for the video. I have solar also. I noticed that your electrical panel does not have a circuit breaker for the Solar Inverter which means that you may have "line taps" before the main. If that is the case, you should not have to turn off the solar. If you do, the first cut-off switch that you touched would disconnect it from the grid and therefore would not have to turn off the inverter. If you turn off the inverter, the grid would not get to the inverter components. In either case, when I have a power outage, I do not touch the solar components. My generator attaches to the exterior plug which is routed to the circuit just like yours. I do not manage the power from the panel, rather I turn everything on. I manage the power consumption myself by what I use. I am fortunate to not have an electric hot water heater.

It would be much much better in its own hurricane enclosure, insulated and sound baffled you would have to know what it was to hear it from the street so the neighbors would have to be sitting outside reading to even hear it. Natural gas would keep it running for a month while it's gasoline tank needs refilled every day when gas might not be in this county.

Power is too clean? Also central ac thermostats usually have a 3-5 minute delay on starting the compressor to allow for the refrigerant pressure to equalize.

What size amp plug do you have running on the house? 30 or 50amp? For whole house I heard 50amp is needed.
