Simple Syrup For Cakes.

You can flavor simple syrup with different flavors like vanilla, almond, rum, brandy, peppermint, spearmint, lemon, orange, etc,
any flavoring you like can be added to this syrup.

This simple syrup is used in pastry shops to flavor and moisten "Genois" a style of cake.

It can also be used to cover fruit on fruit tarts which gives it a glaze, adds a sweetness to it,
and also protects the fruit from air.

For those interested, I'm using a Salton brand induction cooker.

Julie Smith Hi Julie, yes indeed, you can use any type of juice.  It will thicken nicely.  If you are making a pineapple upside down cake, it would work well as a side sauce or pouring a bit over the cake at the end, - if you wished... but to answer your question, yes, without any problem.  Thanks for watching Julie :-)

Hi Marilyn, I don't see why not. All soft drinks ( soda pop ) is made this way - using syrup. In restaurants, the water is gassed with Co2, and a pump brings the sugar syrup up into the dispensing drink machine and mixes it with the fizzy water. I've never tried it, but yes this is essentially what it is, and it would work. You can buy flavorings at some stores like "cola" "orange" "root beer" etc.

kylelalilie pongos Hi there, yes you can, you can brush it on the cake, this is what bakeries do every day.  This helps moisten the cake and add flavor to it.  - by the way, please link your accounts ( google plus and youtube )  - right now nobody can directly reply to your message, I have to do this manually.  If you often leave comments on a video and nobody answers, this is the reason why.

Hi Vanessa, most bakeries / pastry shoppes using this every day to add flavor to cakes, you can take a cake like a Genoise and add this to it, you paste it on with a brush, it not only adds flavor, but moisture to the cake. You can make a lovely coffee flavor to this or any flavor you wish. Something you would use all the time ? no, but it's something bakers use all the time in the industry.

Hi wsugarbutt, I see your comment on the carmel video that you were going to try it, but if you left another comment, I don't see it. Anyway, glad you ended up trying it :-) With the Xmas season coming up, stores will be selling a lot more peppermint flavorings, and this is a great one to add to simple syrup. Thanks for watching my video :-)

Hi Clay, if u mean adding fruit to this mixture, yes it would, however I suggest heating your fruit a little bit, with some water, to extract the natural fruit flavor from whatever fruit you are using, this will make a very aromatic syrup, for example using blueberries. Check for "strawberry sauce" on this channel or "blueberry sauce" on my RecipeBasics channel for recipes on how to make fruit based sauces or "compotes" they are full of fruit flavors. I hope this helps & thanks 4 watching

Another extremely informative guide. I'll be using this syrup as a glaze on my Victoria Sandwich Cake topped with desiccated coconut. Cheers

Oooh I'm going to make this with the addition of orange zest and juice. Making a cake, with lemon curd and whipped cream in the layers. Brushing it with orange simple syrup should be amazing. Thanks, toots. :)
