For those of you who don't have the time to get water and sugar on a stove, you can also make simple syrup by pouring hot boiling water (like from an on-hand kettle) in a glass of equal part sugar (ie 1 cup water 1 cup sugar). Then just stir well and let it cool.

The boiling method works just as well but really all you need is to mix hot water and sugar together.

Hi Yolanda, I use simple suryp on all my cake creations, thanks to you! Yesterday I had to make a cake and the request was "I don't really like vanilla, but definitely not chocolate" So what to do? I boiled some nectarines into my simple suryp and it was a big hit. Thank you for always inspiring me to do better. Much love from a miserable cold South Africa. Charmaine

2/3 cup water, 1/3 cup apple juice, 1 cup sugar.
I've been ordered to make an upside down caramel apple crumble cake (yeah, they just kept listing requests) to take to work and honestly I'm sat here dipping cake scraps into left over syrup and it's glorious.

I have a question about using the simple syrup. When making cakes, I adopted this practice after watching your videos. Do you wait until they are completely cool then add the syrup? Also, how long do you let it soak in before you start stacking and frosting? Thanks so much!!

That's such an interesting way to lock in moisture. I do the same with my hair when I put coconut oil in it, lol.
