Acute pyelonephritis (also known as a kidney infection) is a bacterial infection of the kidney that causes inflammation of the kidney. It is often a complication of a urinary tract infection, and most commonly occurs in young women. In this lesson, we discuss the signs and symptoms of a kidney infection and why they occur.

How do you know if a trapped kidney stone is causing your pain or if it has caused an infection?
If you have a stone is it essential to have it removed ?

I've had about 12 bladder infections since October. One maybe every 3 weeks at first, now one every3-4 days. My doc has never given me more than 3-5 days antibiotics, and even now, sometimes a 1 day pill. She refuses to test me after treatment. I'd like to get a second opinion, someone who actually tries, instead of making me feel like I'm lying or being dramatic. These infections have destroyed any chance of a social life, and I'm considering quitting my job due to pain. I wish she would do more. I sincerely hope that she gets a bout of this herself and finds it just as "pleasant" as I have.

My wife has lewy body dementia and i think this is what her problem is has pain over her back right hip area. They say UTI is common with dementia and that could lead to kidney infection. She refuses to go to Dr. Sometimes she has stabbing pains.

What is the antibiotics are not working?

I had such an infection with 8 years without any pain, fever or any other symptoms. Just accidentially it has been even realized and could be treated afterwards. This was 27 years ago and since then I have microscopic blood in the urin. Sometimes only traces, sometimes worryingly more. But overall it has been stable without ever getting back to normal, which is strange, because all other reports like ultrasonic are totally fine. The doc never figured out whats the matter.
