Matt Waymeyer Critiques Reformed Eschatology

Dr. Matt Waymeyer from the Expositors Seminary has written and in-depth critique of Reformed Eschatology or historic Amillennialism. His book, Amillennialism and the Age to Come: A Premillennial Critique of the Two-Age Model, argues that Amillennialism cannot interpret OT passages that he believes suggest the presence of an “intermediate” kingdom that fits neither with the present order of things nor does it fit with the Bible’s teaching of the eternal state. The difference between the premillennial and amillennial view continues to present serious divergences in hermeneutics and theology. On this episode of Red Grace Life, we hope to give a meaningful response to Dr. Waymeyer’s work.

Good video. Please do a video on amillennial eschatology vs Historical Premil and Dispensational Premil. Especially OT and NT text that support the amil view. It seems the hermeneutical approach of the other forms on the millennium lack consistency.

We had to upload a new edit of the video but the first video had a couple of comments on it. Posting those here so we show the love.

The important question is: how does your "mature understanding" of the OT (arrived at via the NT) relate to the best understanding the original audience could have understood in their own context? Clearly, Weymeyer believes revelation is progressive, He is simply denying that the additional clarity added by the NT abrogates the meaning the OT had to its original audience. Rather, that meaning is reinforced, confirmed, and expanded. This fact is presuppositionally true to each of the NT authors.

"For this reason, I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles - if indeed you heard [about] the stewardship [ten oikonomian] of the grace of God which was given to me for you - that according to revelation [kata apokalupsin] it was made known to me, the mystery, just as I wrote before in brief, unto which you are able, when you read [it] to perceive my insight in the mystery of Christ, which to other generations was not made known to the sons of men as now [nun] it was revealed [apekalupsthe] to His holy prophets in [the] Spirit: that the Gentiles are fellow heirs and fellow members and fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel, of which I was made a minister according to the gift of God's grace." (Ephesians 3:1-7) I really believe some key words ("mystery", "stewardship/administration", "made known", "revelation", "now") strongly argue that there is a "revealing" of the old in the new (to quote Augustine). Paul really uses the "two age [aeon]" interpretive hermeneutic in Ephesians (actually all his letters), which I believe the ano-millenial view gets right (the correct 'balance' of the 'now-and-not-yet'). Love these episodes, brother Emelio. Keep up the good work!!

Ephesians 4:11-16
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

Thank you, my dear brothers in Christ. How great is our God and Savior Jesus Christ to use you to teach these things to us! I love you guys so much. We are a remnant. Please never be discouraged and know that what you are teaching opens my eyes when I read the Word. It’s hard to dive deep on my own.
