Owning mistakes, especially from direct reports, is such a boss move. Make the move, have the recovery plan either ready or already in action, find a way to make sure they know how you value them. Master class right here.

"You manage them, so YOU own it"

Words to live by. Dont even be friends with people who pass blame onto people below them

How professionals handle a mistake. You don’t have to be rich to be responsible.

Exactly, if you’re the manager or a company owner, taking accountability looks a lot better to the clients, than what the “rich” guy said.

Someone who’s truly self confident, doesn’t need to maintain a facade of perfection for themselves or others.

Illinois is the capital for freight carriers, in case anyone wants to know how great that will be for “Really Rich” 😉

Accountability is sexy. 😊 I do this too for my tutoring clients if i mess up - they get a discount for their next class. I correct my mistakes, it's the right thing to do! And they're always happy to get the discount! Cheers!

The really rich are always humble and thorough, they treat their profession as a man would treat a family, but maybe with a slightly different type of scrutiny.
The really rich get "really" rich because they are who they are ( welcoming, probably laid back, curious and resourceful) without the money
That's what I've learnt from this series ✌️

If I were in the client position, I would note how this interaction speaks to the ethics and professionalism of the the manager/owner. This short interaction establishes trust and owning a mistake is a hell of a lot better than pulling a fast one and losing the business and future leads

At my old job, I was given the duty to oversee a small portion of the workforce. I signed off on their work, meaning that I took credit for it.

I made sure they did it right. Made sure they knew where my supervisors and I were if they had any questions. The work that they did was better than the permanent people

The real takeaway isn’t that you need to own the mistakes. It’s that if you have time to dither about your failed date, you have time to review the work your subordinates do.

Its honestly a good leadership style too. If employees see their boss take the fall for their mistakes it makes them feel bad so they dont make the mistake again in the future. This helps everyone. The boss acts as a filter shielding his guys from those above and the guys below actually want to do their best. Its kinda like the difference between a boss that gets mad and screams at you and the boss that just says he is dissapointed in you and thought you could do better. I can tell you one of those 2 is easy to hand and the other is a knife to the heart that makes you want to be better.

Straight up, if you’re transparent and real with ANYONE, they will go above and beyond for you, cause they know you get shit done.

Best response for any report of a mistake you aren't aware of is "Thanks for letting me know. I'll look into this and get back to you ASAP."

Don't throw your team under the bus. Don't tell the client they're wrong. Just say you will get to the bottom of it and then act accordingly.

Lol funny enough I personally know the owner of the largest trucking company in Illinois. He happens to also be the 6th largest in the nation.

Perhaps the old saying of "do what you love" fits in here as well. If you love it, it's not work, and you'll do what the business calls for. Kind of like treating the mistake as an opportunity to go to the Lake, work hard at fixing the problem, while team building and learning. No need to turn a typo or miscommunication into a bigger problem. The boss called the customer owning the problem while providing a solution without being asked. Imagine the level of organizational trust and communication in this company to be able to point out their own mistake, volunteer to fix it over the weekend, for no reason other than what I can guess is "we can do better" and we trust our boss to take care of us.
