Before he passed, I got to meet Tom Clancy. I was fresh out of the military, walked with a limp, and was normally my places bartender. I brought his plate as his waitress was in the weeds; he noticed my tattoos. He asked about them. I explained they were my units emblem and my squads internal joke name for ourselves. He immediately perked up, and we ended up talking through his meal. A few weeks later, he skipped his normal table (a corner table where he people watched) and sat at the bar. Just so we could talk. My place owner decided to set up a table just for him. He would still be able to talk with me AND people watch. He was the most down-to-earth person I've dealt with.

He must have worked in a kitchen before because I can promise you, we 100% appreciate a quick round of shots during a dinner rush

When I worked at a restaurant and an entire party of the Rockefeller family was one of the most polite and least messy of the entire season, very classy.

That is pretty accurate to how chefs in restaurants dress, a mix between heavy metal singers and pirates

As a chef in a michelin star restaurant I can confirm this is quite accurate. Many of out patrons don't recognise an authentic recipe from 'mass produced crowd pleasing recipes.' The 'really rich' do tend to tip more per member of staff than 'rich' does in total

This is so on point. I bartend a couple nights a week and a the CEO of a very large corporation is one of my regulars. One of the nicest, most genuine human beings ive ever met. Picked up the tab when my family and i were in for dinner and bought my daughter dessert. Offered his house in Florida for us to vacation as well.

“I’d be way more worried that the chef has a nicer watch than you do” I about fell off my damn couch when I heard that

As an ex-line cook, I love chefs sometimes. They could stare down God himself and say "well maybe your palate is shit"

I had the same experience. My family use to own & run our own restaurant. Some asshat was bitching about the one dish he didn't like because we made it differently from other restaurants despite it using the original recipe as oppose to what's being used more commonly.

Fast forward he comes in again with his boss, the CEO (who already happens to be our regular anyway). He tells his boss not to order the dish he was complaining about last time because of how we make it. His boss threw some great shade at him. He said "Well if you did your homework that's how it was traditionally made, considering that's how MY ancestors made it. I personally think it's lovely and hope they keep it that way." I gave him a cold stare with a little grin while he looked up at me and then hid his face behind his phone.

The CEO is always great. So polite and always tries to walk in other people's shoes. He knows he's a big boss but always knew how to treat others right.

You are single handedly helping to get regular rich people to be nicer lmao.

Food history is one of the most fascinating things about cooking. You can get LOADS of ideas from the old days.

Also, most people don't know you can go into a restaurant and speak to the chef and ask him to make whatever he wants. Chefs are creative and love throwing off the shackles of the menu to do their own thing every now and again. They'll almost always make it worth your money.

The lesson i learn from these is that people who have all the money they need realize the thing that makes you happiest is other people's happiness but people who think they need more think that the money will make them happy

Since I dont know when, I always notice that old money people are really polite and more of a people person than new money ones…

Really rich guy makes me cry. The guy every one of us prays to meet, but never will. I will always provide the absolute best service I possibly can, but it gets heavy. Idk if you're the potus or homeless, you'll always get my best.
It hurts, cause sometimes I have nothing left at the end, and my personal life suffers.
This shit is cathartic. Thank you
