You can get our 75 question GED exam with videos of all the solutions:

A math tutorial on how to solve an algebra problem on the 2014 GED math test.

The steps to solve for the variable b are shown in detail in the video. Briefly, we have:
7 * b^2 - 8 = 167

Add 8 to both sides:
7 * b^2 = 175

Divide both sides by 7:
b^2 = 25

Take the square root of both sides:
b = 5

Technically there are two possible answers to the square root of b squared. You could get b^2 = 25 with either b = 5 or b = -5. The problem asks for the positive value of b so we choose b = 5 for our answer.

Being left-handed sometimes gets in the way but I hope you can still see and hear what's going on. There's nothing I can do about this video besides take it down and re-film it. I'll keep my hands out of the way in future videos.

The GED Math Answers video comes with scanned copies of all the slides so that you can see exactly what is written.
