Canning FAQ: Can I can on a Glass cooktop?

Is it safe to ccan on your glass or ceramic cooktop? Here is what I found out.

I can on my frigidaire glass top with my Presto frequently. I always make sure not to put a hot canner with hot water on a cold burner, and vice versa. Also, I never fill my canner in the sink and then put on my stove, I use a quart jar and fill it on the stove. That way I don't run the risk of 'dropping' it on the surface. Just be careful, no SUDDEN temp changes, and I have been successful. Happy canning!

Kenmore here and yes I can on it with my AA and water bath canners. I read the manual first. I alternate between sides. And the most discoloration and wear I've had is NOT from the canners. It's from regular cooking and inattentive cooking by others in the house! I'm not sure why people slide canners? I just let it sit before and after processing

I was concerned about the fluctuation of the element turning on and off …. I heard you mention it but if it hits temperature/pressure consistently is there really any concern??? I just bought a presto and have a Frigidaire flat top that turns on/off pulsing but it maintains a boil

Thank you. I have a glass top electric stove. I try to be careful and so far no problems. This video just reinforces the need for care when pressure canning.

I use an AA 921 and quite often use an AA 915 at the same time right beside it. Haven't broken anything yet, and it's been years of use this way.

unfortunately I can't use my current stove, but have other means..Camp stove for (outside use) this 925 has been sitting for a year now, never used 🙄

Your canner is off the glass. That’s the trick I think.

I worry about canning in the future! I can with an All American 921, on a gas stove. My concern is that the government here in Canada seems bent on ending the use of natural gas at home. Already the first subdivision is going in, not linked to the gas networks! They have introduced a punitive tax on gas, to make it expensive to heat our homes and this is a cold country! These are scary times!

I broke 2 glass tops canning. Learned my lesson the hard way. I will never have another glass top.

I have a glass top and did extensive research for canning. I have the presto 23 quart and 16 quart canner and my stove has done beautifully. One thing about glass stoves is to make sure the top is a clean as possible prior to canning and use a glass razor blade to remove stuck on food. After cleaning it, i also squirt on the glass-top cleaner to give the stop a little more protection from scratching

Thanks for this. I’m very frustrated as we do not have the option for gas. I love my All American. To give it up for a Presto is such a letdown.

Mostly I use a Presto 23qt canner but on occasion will use an AA910 on my glass top. My dream one day is to have a gas stove. ALL new Presto and National Canners say in their instruction manuals: “Caution: Do not use pressure canner on an outdoor LP gas burner or gas range over 12, 000 BTU's.”

I have electric. I went on Amazon and purchased a Cooktop Canning Kit for my stove. I removed the coil and placed the kit one in my stove and I love it! It’s raised high off my stove and won’t cause caving in or scratching.
