I just want to know how in the heck you got to be so smart when so many others on YT want us to be believe they are smart but make things way to difficult. You give us the info we need in small doses so that we can absorb and research for ourselves. Thank you for that.

G'day Nate from Melbourne Australia. Thanks for another informative tutorial. I have only been aware of your excellent channel for 7 or 8 weeks but I "subbed" onto you immediately! Your explanations are very clear and clarify many observations and practices that I have utilized over my 40 year horticultural journey and intend to continue until I also become a component in the natural cycle of life! Wishing you continued great health and happiness.

Winter kill covercrops are perfect for spring greens beds. A blend heavy on tender beans, peas & oats will kill off after one or more hard freezes. After a hard frost in Jan/Feb, cover with mulch like leaf mould or straw.

What creates the big mess & termination problems are the winter hardy covercrops you are recommending, like winter rye & clovers.

A winter kill covercrop self-terminates unless you have a very peculiar warm winter. Should that occur, mow down & tarp, then cover with leaf mould, straw, etc...

You are very good at keeping it simple and you keep to the subject. I never have a problem understanding you keep up the good work. From your videos I now have an endless supply of excellent liquid fertilizer, compost, I know about leaf mold and where to find it and how to use it
And a better understanding of how plants live.
Thanks man.

Another practice I use that’s similar is planting in spaced rows and leaving grasses and clover growing in the walkways between. I keeps a base level of microorganisms that doesn’t change year to year and helps the rows recover after tilling. (Yes I usually till).

Here’s an important question. With the no till termination, what happens with the plant matter from above ground. Do we mulch our new crop with it? Or clear it off and compost it? Where is the best place for all that green matter??💚

Thanks Nate for clearing the cover crop mystery, when to terminate a cover crop and reasoning given. Great wisdom and compassion because you listen to the people and teach for the people at the moment they need the information.

Just a warning for people that plan on tilling winter rye grain. Don't I repeat don't let it get 2 tall. Terminate it like he said if it gets 2 tall or you better have a good tiller. I've seen guys with food plots with a tiller behind there tractors burn then up. If you do live where you can use clover I think clover puts more nitrogen in your soil. Another great video

Thank you. Now I know when a cover crop is good. I will grow a cover crop in only some areas based on what I will grow in the spring!

I love listening to the kaiser's from singing frog farms on this. Every crop is a covercrop. Every crop is a cash crop. It helped me understand the idea a bit more. But obviously, there sre some plants that are more beneficial than vegetables.
