We’re passionate about planting cover crops in the home garden because it has really improved our soil. The key to gardening organically is healthy soil! We started planting cover crops in our raised beds every fall after we did a lot of research, and we were so glad we gave them a try. We plant them every fall now. We’re excited to inspire you to take this easy step to have healthier soil in your garden! Really, cover crops are so easy to plant and grow.

The first spring after we had planted cover crops in the fall, we saved SO much time not having to remove winter and spring weeds from our raised beds. Having to remove weeds took up so much of our time and energy, and we also lost valuable soil during the process. Weed seeds were in every raised bed, and it was a big hassle. Planting cover crops in the fall created a mulch that choked out the weeds, and that’s just one of the ways they improved our soil.

We hope our video gives you some ideas on how to get started with cover crops in your home garden. Whether you have one garden bed or a large garden, there are cover crops for you. They can be purchased in small amounts in seed packets or large bags. We purchase ours from High Mowing Organic Seeds.

So glad I ran across this pod. Small world. I follow her brother chasing storms🤗. Reminds me that I need to get myself in gear and pull out all my collected resource materials, journal, seeds(stored) and get the overall big plan moving. Each season is so important. It is definetly a cycle. February pretty much time to sharpen those pruners. The ground hog saw his shadow thank goodness🤗.

Outstanding! Fun and informative video. TIP; What really works for us is rotating the cover crops from bed 2 bed. Season 2 season. No need to fertilizer. Reed needs his own bed named after him. 'Always B Dominating.' lol

Nice neat interesting tour. Wow, you can grow a lot of crops! (Nice 🚜) In the area were you grow sunflowers and pumpkins is there much topsoil or is it just a reddish topsoil? Is it clay or sand? It looks so fluffy.

Pine straw is the best mulch. Idk why more don't use it.

But the cover crops produce roots and when you turn them under before planting. Those roots a leaves provide nutrients for soil and worms👍. It’s all about the ecological system. You rotate cover crops season to season🤗. Makes a biggly difference with your harvested produce.
