Quick question - New iPhone SE or iPhone mini??

While I agree with your points, we have to remember there are people out there that don’t like the newer design. I have a friend of mine who prefers the older design, Touch ID, and it being a phone with a home button but would love to have 5G this is it! Apple is going to sell a ton of these! We have many grandparents who are still on their old flips but are pressured into getting an iPhone to FaceTime their kids and grandkids. The iPhone SE 3rd Gen works because it’s also less than $500. It’s also great for parents that want to get their kids an iPhone but don’t want to get them something that is more on the expensive or nicer side. The iPhone SE is a smart move by Apple and I think sometimes as techies we forget we are the minority when it comes to the rest of the world when they just want a phone that works and works well for them. Apple released that phone for a reason and that reason is based on how they currently see the market. There is a strong market for the SE.

The new iPhone SE is indeed what I need.

Don't get me wrong, I love tech gadgets but nowadays smartphones are too fancy. I don't need too many back cameras, notch, big full screen, face ID, on-screen finger scanner. I just need a decent smartphone that is fast and doesn't crack easily. Even middle-range smartphones are trying to copy those functions from flagships which I don't need, and I don't want to buy entry-level smartphones either.

A lot of older people love this form factor. That’s why it’s still around. I wish they would have offered more colors.

A slightly different perspective: My wife had a iPhone 8 that was giving her problems so in October I decided to up grade her and got her a 13 mini. I figured she'd love love it because what's not to love considering what she had, better screen, more memory, faster processor, better camera, better batter and all in pretty much the same size phone. Well she hates the damn phone! You see for her it's about ease and having to learn face ID and how to swipe is giving her the flux. She doesn't care that she has a better phone, it's not easier to use for her. To be honest I'm considering buying a SE3 (or SE 5G, whatever they call it) and sell the 13 mini.

Some people just don't care about the latest features of the best cameras, they just want their phone to keep working the way they're used to. I think the new SE 2022 is for them.

I think I'm the only person who is actually excited about the new SE. I've never been a fan of Face ID, even before masks became a thing.

I think the new SE will make the 13 series more appealing.

I think this SE 3 is a good option for me. I personally spend so little time on my phone and I just love the old design. I hate those new 6+ inch displays, 3+ cameras at the back of the phone and all the features I will never use. I was thinking about buying SE 2 but as soon as I heard it's battery is pretty bad I decided to wait and not buy it yet. Now when I heard SE 3 comes with a better battery and there are already some tests that confirm this I am really thinking about buying it. I am definitely not one of those users who spend hours a day on youtube, IG or TikTok since I watch stuff on my laptop. I don't even game on my phone so I guess this is a really good option for me and I bet there are a lot of people like me.

The criticism of this phone is based on metrics that a significant number of people don’t care about. The dated design isn’t an issue for a number of people, hence their determination that an update was worth it. A lot of people prefer the home button over Face ID too, so I understand the appreciation for this phone design.

I don’t know if a lot of people know this but you can manually turn off 5G in the Settings app and only use 4G LTE to save battery life on any 5G-enabled smartphones/tablets. The transition from 4G to 5G is not the leap forward transition that is 3G to 4G approximately one decade ago.

It could’ve retained the price at 399 or make it lower. OR could’ve increased battery size a little at least, and make 128gb base then justifiably increase to 429. That’s enough options for me. It’s doomed to fail i think

I just can't justify paying $429 for old goods in the new box. It's got nice features, but Apple could have done more.

This phone wouldn't be so bad if they actually changed the design and up the storage to can't really do much of anything with 64 nowadays

Upgraded from the SE2 and I love the 3. The form factor, home button, new chip, and price. It’s perfect.

None af this makes SE awful. Design is "old", but it's still good and premium materials make it even better, display was always excellent and still is, TouchID is a benefit that's actually missing on new iPhones, battery life was fine on previous model, so with A15 it can only be much better...basically, this video actually convinced me that iPhone SE is pretty awesome.

You actually touched on the point yourself. This phone is for apple users who are on legacy devices looking to upgrade without giving up the design and touch ID that they like. This is not the phone for the masses.

Thousands of people would want this phone, but they are the ones who wouldn’t bother watching tech videos. They just want a reasonably priced phone with features that cover the basics.

I think most of people ragging on the iPhone SE‘s don’t realize that there’s a lot of people out there that just want a phone that works. they don’t care about the screen they don’t care about the camera they just want it to be fast and for it to work and be supported for years on end. That A15 chip is a beast too… if you don’t like it just go buy the iPhone 13

Currently i carry Iphone 8, and when i compared it with the new SE, the only two major changes were the chip and 2+ hours from the battery.
Personally, I don’t mind jumping through technology very slowly (as long as I’m doing so), so i considered buying this one then after few years I would buy something like iphone 15 pro for example.
Because I prefer the Home Button most. But the price is just not right, if it starts from $350 and $400 for the 128GB
It would be more suitable for that old stocked part that was laying in their storage since 2018.

I think it will be a hit because while even for 430$ It still appeals to those who do not want for whatever reason to switch to face id based phones, some just being comfortable with older phones. And with the updated internals at least it will be relevant for a long life cycle. Its absolutely not a device made for people wanting the latest and the greatest. And I think those compromises are more to drive people who want those features to be driven to the other products in their range. If we go by value compared to even others in the android ecosystem at that same price range, its absolutely not there... but I don't even think it targets the value market anymore. When many carriers still offer brand new iPhone 11's for the 500$ or less range, the SE becomes even less compelling however I think its more an investment not in the people that don't care about modern features but rather absolutely don't want certain modern features. Its a device to keep them up to date network wise so that by the end of the expected 4-6 year life cycle for those users, that it will still be compatible with changes to networks. The SE line went from a small recycled flagship to a budget option to now really just a anti-modernist holdout device.
