2022 iPhone SE 3: really worth it? - Review

The newest and cheapest iPhone is here with the 3rd gen 2022 iPhone SE - and while it maintains the old design, it only costs $430. Is it really worth it, especially with the iPhone 11 for not much more?

TYPO - f/1.8 not f/2.4 my apologies 9:19
The iPhone SE 3 is the rough equivalent of putting a Ferrari engine into a PT Cruiser- the A15 is overpowered, but can it make up for the old design's shortcomings?

This is the phone that has everything that you NEED in a phone. Not necessarily everything that you want, but everything you need, it’s there

Man, I just LIKE the old iPhone design more than the current mainline design. That's reason enough to go get an SE3. I think it LOOKS better because the classic design is iconic.

I'm in the minority of people that actually prefers bezels. With how huge phones are now, it's already a pain to use it one handed. My fat palms just end up tapping the corner of screens that don't have bezels when I'm trying to reach and touch a different part of the screen. The physical design of this phone is something I hope never dies. I actually wish they'd bring back the body of the 1st generation SE, that phone was the greatest ever made.

I bought the SE3 for my 71 year old mom. She’s still using the 6s. I’m glad I was able to get her a new iPhone with the home button. When I told her I was buying her a new phone she said: “It better be an iPhone”. I planned at first to get her the 13, but the salesperson was great in recommending the SE3 to me for Mom. It saved me $300. Plus it’s a familiar design and easier for Mom to learn to use. Mom doesn’t care about the camera or the other bells & whistles available on more expensive new iPhones. SE3 is one she’ll be able to use (God willing) for another 9 years. She could have used my late Dad’s android phone. It’s only about 2 years old but she can’t figure it out. And she doesn’t like bigger phones. Thanks Apple for the SE3.

To be honest, I’ve had an iPhone 11 and have an iPhone 13 Mini right now, but I still have days where I miss my 8+. If they made an SE+ model with the 8+ design, I’d be very tempted to go back to that.

Just got it a week ago for around 280$ in my country. This phone is a beast. Love everything about it. Light, small and fast with the latest A15 chip, so this phone is gonna be around for 3-5 years. The battery is good enough for someone who is not a heavy user like myself. Only the 5G is not necessary, you should turn it off to protect the battery. Overall 8/10. If you're on a budget, go for this one. 👏🏻

I recently traded my iPhone 13 for the iPhone SE 3 and I’m so glad I did! I never really used the ultra wide camera or night mode or cinematic mode and besides the flash makes up for not having the night mode feature. I tried using Face ID but it just became very frustrating and never really made it easier for me. Also I don’t care for MagSafe I never invested in any MagSafe accessories but it was just cool to have. So all in all, when the iPhone SE 3 came out it was what I was waiting for. PERFECTION! Just right…for me anyways!

I wouldn't personally own one, but this was the perfect gift for my mother. She had a stroke in 2017 and the modern trend towards massive phones just doesn't work for her, so I got her this phone a few days ago, and the fact that she can operate it comfortably and with one hand since she's paralysed in one part of the body, are just incredible selling-points for someone like her. She also just doesn't like phones without fingerprint sensors. I hope Apple keeps this design.

I switched from a Samsung s21 to the SE3 and I don’t regret it I love the old design and it fits in my hands a lot better the big screens can be tedious at times I personally think it’s more preference and peoples opinions personally I love it

One minor correction at 2:52 I think the iPhone SE 3 does have the same processor as the iPhone 13, not the 13 pro. The iPhone 13 pros A15 does have an additional GPU Core over the base A15.

Great video and nice comparison. I think there’s a reason the iPhone SE outsold the iPhone 12 in the year they were released and it goes beyond the price tag. Seems like there’s a sizable market segment who prefer this form factor over the iPhone X and derivatives. Like the video mentioned, the iPhone 11 and iPhone 13 mini are a better value on paper. But when it comes to real life usage, some people just find the SE more comfortable. So it’s good Apple offers both options.

there’s really a small group of ppl who actually care about the specs of their device. from what i’ve noticed, most of the ppl who buy a flagship device either get it because it’s the “best” phone, or because they got talked into buying it, or they just want a big screen. with that said, the se is aimed at ppl who just want a phone that works period. they don’t care about the camera spec, they don’t care about 5g, they don’t care about the chipset, they probably don’t even know what the chipset is. they just want a good priced phone that works. so, when we compare the se to the 11 to see which is a better buy, the reasons we come up with are moot to the person buying an se. you have to turn off your tech enthusiast brain to really understand why the se is still around.

I have been getting more eye fatigue/ strain from the 13 mini screen. The SE has an IPS screen, which offers a wonderfully comfortable viewing experience. I really regret upgrading to the 13 mini from my 2020 SE, and will definitely be "downgrading" to the 22 SE when it goes on sale.

i just placed an order for this phone. i definitely would have loved an updated design with smaller bezels for a bigger screen, a better display and camera but the three selling points for me was:
1. the price tag (obviously)
2. the touch id
3. the phone will still receive iOS updates for a while to come
thanks for the video!

I got to iPhone 11 based on your review. I love the small form factor of the SE 3. Thank you Josh. 👍😀

Believe it or not, it’s a great phone for us, blind people. Yes, I am completely blind, and I love this phone. I’m not really worried about the screen size, or the camera, but when it comes to the processing and a lot of the internals, it’s awesome. Facial recognition doesn’t really work for us blind people, so I love the touch ID. Love the video, peace and many blessings from the blind guy.

I actually prefer the home button over what they have on their current flagships.

I've got XR instead of SE 2022, XR is cheaper (at least in my country), has a modern design, bigger display, better battery life and you won't notice much of performance improvements of the newest chipsets as iOS is heavily optimized. Also, everyone is talking about iPhone 11 when comparing it with SE 2022, but I think iPhone XR is the proper contender as it has the same (or even less) price, XR is a hidden gem.
