Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning Review - The Final Verdict

In the end, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is the perfect representation of this underrated diamond in the rough’s strengths- because it’s brought over the original game almost exactly as is.

As a remaster, it doesn’t do nearly as much as it should on a technical level, which is definitely a disappointment. If you’ve never played this game before, or if you want to dive back into it but don’t have access to an older copy, Re-Reckoning is easy to recommend- but only because the game itself is as good as it is. If you were hoping for an impressive visual upgrade, this isn’t it, and those who already have access to a copy of the original game should probably save their money.

I owned this game when it first came out. Completed it twice, and still never finished everything. I love this game and I’m glad it’s finally getting the credit it deserves

The biggest change, by FAR, is that they have changed the loot tables around so that areas don't become so level locked (anyone who has played the original will know what this is).

I strongly suggest supporting this game a picking up a copy regardless if you have access to an old copy. This game deserves the chance to grow like it should have before. Hands down one of my favorite games of all time. To those who will discover this game for the first time you will want to kick yourself for missing out for so long.

then again, the new expansion/DLC will only be released for the new one... and if it all sells well, we might get to see a sequel :) so, I hope that despite the not so great score and evaluation, it does well :)

For difficulty I really recommend playing on hard.
On easy enemy AI take turns and attack 1 at a time.
On normal they ignore this and each do their own thing making it tougher.
On hard they actively attack together to overwhelm you.
Simple choices but better than boring stat buffs of most games.

Everyone's talking about the remaster being underwhelming, but it's just a port so you don't have to dig out your 2nd and 3rd gen consoles. It's the same thing THQ Nordic did with Titan Quest, which I absolutely loved too. Just enjoy the RPG and "Hack & Slash " it up! I for one can not wait to resurrect my SpellCloak! ♡

The re release wasn't intended to improve an amazing game. It was to re introduce it. It never got the credit it was due. The intention was to create a series. The studio responsible went under. The studio that acquired it never meant to improve the original, rather determine if re releasing it was lucrative enough and gained enough support to produce the intended sequels.

Curious: I tested this yesterday on my X1 and I can tell by far the visual improvement, this video is not really making justice to anyone who sees it for the first time: smaller flowers and grass still flat (if that is a concern considering how important is to look flowers and grass in an rpg) but the whole ambient looks more vivid not to mention the armor, they do shine now!! Been playing the original last month so I can tell the differences. Yes, load screens are worse, hair and faces lack a little bit more detail but actually they tend to intereact more as well body gesticulation increase. This is after all a remaster not a new game design for scratch. Also it just releases and new dlc is on the way, hopefully all the bugs will be fix, improvements shall be made and for those who aims for outstanding visual may get volumetric flowers.
