In one version of Rapunzel I read as a child, it was raddishes the woman wanted, and the witch exchanged them for their baby as payment...very creepy and sad indeed!!!

I had so hoped Flynn would've been blinded and then his sight restored like in the first version but still, I really love what they did with Tangled. Regardless of how dark the original one is, it's actually tender and romantic between the couple instead of one of them being abused or mislead. I really loved this one, great job!

Botanists to the fore: the rampion bellflower (Campanula rapunculus, in German: Rapunzelglockenblume) has edible roots. Brothers Grimm apparently still knew that in the early Middle Ages, these roots were a common dish and the flowers were therefore cultivated. In the picture book of my childhood, the eponymous plants in the witch's garden were lamb lettuce which in German sometimes is also called Rapunzel. It always bothered me that the woman craved for something so much that literally grows everywhere - with the knowledge that she didn't crave lamb lettuce but that culture plant, I am all the wiser.
