Story for you; I grew up thinking that my grandfather’s name was Eben. It wasn’t until he passed away that we found out his actual name was Ebenezer.

I love these deep dives, but Gunther's sleepy little puggy face is the cherry on top. ❤

Growing up, we had a calendar that listed not only holidays but historic anniversaries. When there were references to America going to war, it showing a scowling Uncle Sam rolling up his sleeves for a fight...

Growing up, my local movie theater had that poster appear on screen before the trailers. But it said “I want YOU to TURN OFF YOUR CELL PHONES” …So that’s the legacy Uncle Sam has in my mind. Theater etiquette.

And you can visit Uncle Sam's grave in Oakwood Cemetery, also in Troy...Troy has a very fascinating history. I worked at the Troy Public Library for 5 years (2013 to 2018)and learned a lot about the city...

Ebenezer was such a common name in the late 1700s and all throughout the 1800s. I see it all the time when creating cemetery databases and helping people with genealogical research! The more unique old names I've seen are: Increase, Inverse, Thankful, Mehitable and others I can't recall at the moment.

Fun fact about the Uncle Sam wants YOU for US Army poster:
It was very effective at it's job for recruiting Americans into the army since it had a clever optical illusion where if you moved from side to side it would look like Uncle Sam was not only looking at you but also pointing at you. This would make any viewer of the poster feel like Uncle Sam was talking directly towards them

Try it for yourself, you'll see it actually does work

One thing everyone seems to forget about, when talking about the war of 1812 - or more specifically, the burning of the white house, is the perfectly-timed storm that put out the fire and devastated the invaders.

Fun fact: The war of 1812 was won because a massive hurricane suddenly appeared, and wrecked the British ships off the shore. It was America's own "Divine wind".

7:54 Ebenezer is actually a word that means, : "place of remembrance" or even "alter of remembrance" so a statue or memorial would technically be an Ebenezer.
It's also significant to the story of Christmas Carol, when you consider that most of Scrooge's issues come from events in his past. (At least 1/3 of the story lol)
The word also appears in the song/ hymn "Come thou Fount of every Blessing"
"Here I raise my Ebenezer;
hither by thy help I’m come;"
(Translation: I will raise a memorial to the fact that I couldn't have gotten this far without You.)
