Faleines brother Gobo. His story is the saddest part. My heart shattered when the hunter who helped Gobo ends up killing him. If only the hunter knew the differences between the deers look, i feel like thats a part of it. :'(

Funny thing about the idea of crossover between Bambi and The Fox & The Hound. Many fans has speculated that Amos Slade was the hunter who shot Bambi's mother.

My dad told me the story where his father, went hunting with my great grandpa when he was a kid, he shot a doe and the fawn came out of the brush calling for its mother. He felt so bad he never went hunting again.

Am I the only one that laughed at the part when he hesitated before saying “booty calls”? 😂

The part of the book that messed me up the most was when Hare's wife dies. The descriptions of the blood melting the snow, how calm and almost confused she was, and then she just rolls over dead... I read the book years ago, and that's the part I remember most vividly.

I love the Bambi movie so I decided to get the book. I read it for hours straight. It might be dark but it is really a wonderful book, would recommend. It introduces a character called Gobo who is an absolute sweetheart, however, does end up dying. The thing that disturbed me the most was probably the fact that Faline is Bambi’s cousin. However, this probably doesn’t matter for deer, anyways. There is also a part two called “Bambi’s children.” Haven’t read it yet but I’m ordering it today.

Fun fact: Bambi was meant to be a book targeted for adults, but parents saw animals on the cover and went “oOhH, a ChIldrEn’s BoOk!”

Recently saw the lead female of a herd of deer who live in my neighborhood (suburbs) walking with 2 tiny fawns (spots and all)! She recently had twins! I love the deer in our neighborhood ^_^

I'm pretty sure the Hunters in the movie should get fined for destroying forest, assuming that there were laws for that when the book/movie was written in Germany. Seriously, they could have killed someone or at the very least damaged a lot of wild habitat. It's not like they had planes full of water or flame retarding chemicals in those days.

This is one of my favorite Disney movies and one of my favorite childhood books also. I originally read the book when I was around 9 or so. It was the first time I'd read a book that was Disney's source material and the first time I ran into the idea of Disney "Disney-fying their movies. Even with the darker tone I loved the book. One correction I want to add. Gobo was not taken by a hunter but by the game warden. He was raised by him and then released when he was older and stronger. After so much time in Man's care, he had forgotten how to be a deer. He wandered carelessly through the forest, he stayed awake during the day instead of bedding down, and walked freely out on the meadow without a thought for his safety. When the other deer tell Gobo he shouldn't go out on the meadow because "He" is there Gobo scoffs at them telling them that man is his friend and he's not afraid. The deer seem to see Man as all inclusive...one being the same as the other. For Gobo then, if one was kind to him then all of them would be and that was his downfall. The hunter that was killed was shot by the game warden also because he was poaching. Bambi's Father might not have seem overly caring but he always watched out for his son. I may have to go and re-watch this movie now. This was great.

bambi 2 also used the method of making the hunters sound like bambi's mom, ronno did to at the beginning just to show it of I guess, so bambi 2 also references a few things from the book that you spoke of

I didn't find the book that depressing, I loved it, and it made a conscious effort to make us learn and it also has interesting facts about the beautiful animal life. This should be mentioned and I recommend this book to anybody that cares about nature and needs a little story <3 Yes, reality is hard, but it's good to know that. Beautiful book and very good video. There is also Bambi 2 for anybody who would want the next part of the story, though the first one is better ^^

Honestly this book sounds like a great story to read! It's something I would expect from a story about nature and animals while having no personable human characters.
