Mobilizing Lymph Via Flossing

🪩 FLOSS = SAUCE 🕺🏼

Flossing can be a lymph loving activity to add to a busy day, when you’ve got a ton of meetings back-to-back and there’s no moving them. We still gotta move how and when we can. Flossing guides tissue back and forth, and by activating the muscles, we’re targeting lymph movement in that area. Fluid retention in the hands? Try this foh sho!

I have clients “floss” their nerves, muscles, and fascia because…it works really well! 🕺🏼

Sometimes tissues can bind together which causes nerves to get stuck, fluid to lag, and muscle to lose their ability to move freely. Everything in the body adapts to the environment, the “environment” being what we do with our bodies the most.

If you can’t remember the last time you really stretcheddddd and lifted your arms above your head like a cat then you’ll wanna see this floss move to the end for that ribcage and shoulder bit. 😻

To floss the arm (you can work at your own speed here but always start slow):

1. Flex and extend your hands
2. Add wrist flexion and extension
3. Hinge those elbows and now biceps and triceps are coming online!
5a: Roll ‘er all the way up, like your arm is a yoga mat! By now you are activating every section of your arm as you bring your arm towards you in a curling motion.
5b: Flex hands while you stretch and reach those arms above your head. Pull arms down slowly to your sides like you’ve got an invisible band. Really squeeze the muscles along the bra strap area along the armpit/ribcage. Most folks don’t use these muscles often enough and it can cause some interesting variations of shoulder pain due to other muscles compensating.
Make ‘em shine. ✌🏼

Give it a go and let me know how it feels in the comment section below!
