A fun family getaway to view the solar eclipse ended in tragedy. Police say Dr. Monika Woroniecka was riding in an Airstream camper that was being towed by her husband. Suddenly, a gust of wind blew open the passenger side door. Woroniecka was thrown onto the road as her family watched in horror. It's illegal to ride in travel trailers in 39 states, including New York. Airstream released a statement saying, "The safety protocol advises owners that they cannot tow an airstream with people inside."

It's unfortunately she died, but it's common sense not to ride in one of those while being towed

Feels wrong to interview a daughter that's grieving literally the day after her mom died

While this is a tragedy, I can't help but blame the family. They should've known better. Sitting in the trailer is basically the same as sitting in the back of a truck. Please, use some common sense people

Back in the early 1970's, when our family was taking a cross country trip with a trailer, my dad & mom had to constantly refuse my requests to ride in the trailer when we were on the road, citing laws & safety concerns. Mind you, this was before mandatory seatbelt usage was required! I mention this to show that the idea of riding in a trailer being pulled was not considered a smart move, even decades ago.

Stunning that a doctor doesn't/didn't know its illegal to be in a towed vehicle.

Her and her husband should have known better. Is illegal for a reason

The reporter said the family didn’t realize was illegal.

“We were looking and we saw in some states it was legal and some states it wasn’t.” -The daughter

They knew. 100% avoidable.

Her daughter admitted that they knew they werent supposed to ride in it in some states. She was a doctor and knew better.

They knew riding it was legal in some states while illegal in some, don't you think it would've been obvious why it was illegal?

What the heck? Common sense? Apparently a doctor didn't have it, that's depressing.

How can she be smart enough to be a doctor and not have an ounce of common sense. Whether it's the law in that state or not, common sense dictates that it's dangerous to ride in an attached trailer.

This is incredibly sad. I used to get so upset with my dad for not letting me sleep in our air stream on the way the way to vacations but I eventually grew to understand why. It doesn’t matter if you know you have a safe driver, because you can’t be sure that every other driver on the road is safe.

This is terrible, *but this is EXACTLY why you're not supposed to ride in a trailer when it is being towed.*

Not only did they lack the common sense to not be in the trailer while its moving, but it also looks like they never locked the door either.
