Is it Vertigo, Panic Attacks or Anxiety?

Dr Gregg Gerstin answers the question ‘Is it vertigo, panic attacks or anxiety?’.

Today, I’m answering the question, ‘can vertigo be mistaken for anxiety?’. Vertigo and anxiety occur in the same area of the brain stem, which can make it hard to determine which one you may be experiencing. The best way to find out how to tell the difference between vertigo and anxiety is to be seen by a corrective chiropractor.

Vertigo is a feeling of being off balance. If you have these dizzy spells, you may feel like you or that the world around you is spinning. Whereas extreme cases of anxiety may lead you to feeling dizzy or lightheaded.

I would advise parents to make their house peaceful for their children. Anxiety is a very common thing these days. We should try walking and relaxing excerices..

Wow, I"m amazed to see even a hint of an answer to the very question I'm raising for the past year... "Is it vertigo, panic, or anxiety?" - I've had some crazy scary vertigo these past years, but it changed after I had Covid in January 2020. Stayed home to treat myself, was sick for 4 weeks. By March a cardiologist put me on Amlodipine Besylate for high blood pressure, and Atorvastation for high cholesterol. I'd get dizzy shopping, start breathing fast, and get so scared that I couldn't finish shopping. Sometimes as I start driving away from home, I feel like I should turn around and go home because I'm afraid I'll have another vertigo attack. Sitting in restaurant in February it got so bad we had the waitress pack our meal and I went to the E.R. - they gave me meclazine, ran some tests and sent me home with "vertigo" as the diagnosis. I had a brain MRI recently, it's all good, heart monitor for 48 hours was fine, but now I wonder why am I leaning to the left all the time? When I push a grocery cart I feel like someone is pulling it to the left. My memory is getting worse than ever. Oh, I'll be 68 years old in a few days. - On the bright side, I went to Physical Therapy recently for 8 weeks and he treated me for Vestibular Vertigo. Eye exercises DO help. I've been sleeping comfortably in a recliner for 3 years because I have GERD and hiatal hernia. When I had ovarian-cysts surgery in 2019 they found I have Sleep Apnea, so I snore horrendously. I've yet to get any treatment for that. I'm falling apart, doctor. Lost motivation, lack of energy... feel like I'm nearing my end. Should I be on these fancy medicines?

Im still waiting for a diagnosis for 3 months I have been dizzy, had body aches, chest pain & feeling sick my heart is fine, I have had mri of brain and 24 hour blood pressure and ecg so all fine but still got this horrible feeling daily like I could pass out. I have been in bed with a depressive episode for a long time (feel safe) & know it doesn’t help but I have had zero treatment I just keep getting told to get bloods done every 3-6 weeks as infection and inflammation markers are slightly higher. I keep fearing the worst & don’t want to go out I went for a haircut the other day got all sweaty and dizzy and actually had to tell barber to hurry up I need to go home & feel like I don’t have a life as the last 3 months have been horrible and im still feeling the same 😢

Oh my god....I've had panic disorder since I was 21, I'm now 46...:(
I've had a few vertigo episodes ..that right away turn into a panic attacks because it's terrifying. My nervous system is totally unregulated and it's clear as day to me.
I go from a flat laying position to trying to sit up and there's no way..the room spinning is too much. I have to do It
Absolutely worst feeling ever. Soon as I regain the balance when I sit up finally.boom....anxiety starts.😢 Viscous cycle.

I've had GAD for a long time. With that, I've always had constant dizziness along with it. Had my ears checked and everything in between.(Brain scans as well) I've had been to doctors that gave me a med combo (Usually an AP + SSRi). The big thing I'd always notice is that, my dizziness would almost be gone, while on it. (Maybe just a little residual dizziness but tolerable). It helped about a month before it stopped working completely. I've tried a lot of different meds and have noticed occasionally it would help with the dizziness a lot.

Besides all that, It was nice to know the actual cause for it. I spent years thinking it was 'normal' to feel that dizzy. I also came to figure out I had DPDR which is probably a big reason that I have it. Can anyone else relate to feeling dizzy because of bad anxiety? (If you feel the dizziness comes on from a panic attack or anything that makes you anxious) Maybe this can help someone understand what might be causing there dizziness as well.

I wish someone could help me out and give me some sort of idea of what I’m dealing with because my doctor doesn’t care enough. While being pregnant with my daughter (she’s now 11 months old) I had fainted three times.
And since having her I have not fainted but I have felt faint, whether I’m out in public alone or with someone, I feel like it could be anxiety? I don’t know but I just get triggered out of no where, and I feel scared, my heart starts to race, I don’t feel super dizzy but I feel like I am having a harder time breathing, I can’t focus on anything I just go into panic mode and the worst feeling is that I feel like I’m going to faint. I often have to sit on the floor in public and cry it out till I feel better. And often my eyes will go “starry eyed “ and my vision doesn’t go back for like 30 mins or longer… I am so sick of feeling like I’m going to faint and my heart racing the second I leave my house! I’m sick of feeling scared and that any stupid little thing just triggers me like it’s just subconscious thing now… no matter what advice people give me NOTHING helps. Once I’m feeling this way. I can’t get out of it I just have to wait for it to go away! Please help! 😢

I have bad posture and neck pain ontop of anxiety. Could that be the problem with the vertigo?

I really need help, I’ve been dealing with this off balance, swaying, motion sickness, nausea type of feeling for a long time, I recently started having these anxiety attacks since last April and still we can’t seem to find out exactly what’s going on, and till now I still feel off balance and I feel myself swaying sometimes, or if I turn to fast or if I moved my head too much left and right I feel a little motion sickness.
Is it vertigo? Anxiety? Or something else?

All of my issues started after a virus but I also have a neck problem from repeated whiplash and lack of curve. I always have ear issues but I struggle with GAD off and on. It definitely kicks up my ear issue when I’m stressed though if I get a cold or allergies I will also get vertigo which can trigger sweating and anxiety. For me, the ear issue doesn’t cause much dizziness unless my anxiety had been bad for awhile. Thanks for this video!
